In the 2000 NFL draft, it looked like no one wanted Tom Brady. Six other quarterbacks were selected before Brady finally went to the New England Patriots with the 199th pick.

19 years later, he’s about to go to his ninth Super Bowl, having already won five of them, and he holds a number of NFL records, including the most games won by a quarterback with 236.

Many would argue Tom Brady is the greatest NFL player of all time, and his stats certainly go a long way to backing that up. So, how has he got to where he is, and how does he keep it up?

As a 41-year-old playing in the NFL, speculation about how long he will keep playing has been going for a few years already. He’s the oldest non-kicker in the NFL, and is a full decade older than all but six of his Patriots team-mates.

Super Bowl 53 will be the Los Angeles Rams vs New England Patriots at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

You can follow Super Bowl 53 live on Sunday, February 3. The game kicks off at 11:30pm GMT.

In fact, 30 players on New England’s roster are closer in age to Tom Brady’s 11-year-old son than the man himself. Yet, Brady keeps going, and even said recently that there’s ‘zero chance’ of him retiring after the Super Bowl.

Brady puts his excellent physical condition down to his body coach Alex Guerrero, who also works with other stars like Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski. He helps keep Brady healthy, overseeing his diet and conditioning.

For most of the year, Tom Brady is a vegan, but during the winter months he adds some lean meat to his strict diet. So, he does eat some meat for his late regular season games and in the playoffs in the run up to the Super Bowl.

In addition, Brady isn’t only selective about what he eats. An important part of his diet is the 25 glasses of water he drinks a day to stay hydrated. He even once claimed he had never tried coffee.

He’s also a vegan, stays away from a lot of foods, and drinks 25 glasses of water a day as well

Of course, he has to train a lot to stay in shape too. But as you might imagine, an extraordinary player like him probably has a fairly unorthodox routine.

Around 90% of his training is with resistance bands, and much of it is high-rep, uncommon for an American football player. He calls his regime ‘muscle pliability,’ which focuses less on strength and more on flexibility.

He claims it prevents injuries by keeping his muscles strong, active, and easily flexible, and he describes it as ‘deep-force muscle work that lengthens and softens muscles.’

Staying mentally strong is just as important as staying physically strong, and Brady meditates to try and improve through self-awareness.

Mental quickness is crucial to being an NFL player, particularly for a quarterback. Every day Brady does brain games on a laptop or on his iPad, cycling through 29 games that train attention, memory, brain speed, navigation, people skills and intelligence.

Brady is even staying on top of things while he’s asleep. While he generally goes to bed around 8:30pm and gets up at 5:30am, he also has very specific attire for the night time.

Tom Brady has had an incredible career so far, finishing each full season with a winning record

He sleeps in special ‘athlete recovery sleepwear’ which incorporates bioceramic technology into a patterned lining in the garments, which is designed to maximize comfort and fit.

The pattern includes special bioceramic particles that absorb infrared wavelengths emitted by the body and reflect back far infrared energy, helping the body recover faster while promoting better sleep. Far infrared energy is a completely safe type of radiation that promotes cell regrowth within the body. That means your muscles and joints regenerate faster, resulting in less soreness after intense physical activity.

It sounds like science fiction, but it definitely seems to work. Tom Brady hasn’t missed a game through injury in eight years, and his playing record speaks for itself.

The Patriots have had a winning record in every single season they’ve played under Tom Brady, including an incredible 16-0 run in 2007 in which he threw 50 touchdown passes.

He won the Super Bowl with the Patriots three times in his first four full seasons from 2001-2004, and then actually had to wait a pretty long time for his fourth, despite winning a lot of games in between.

The 41-year-old shows no signs of slowing down either, putting up impressive stats every year

On Sunday, February 3, the New England Patriots will come up against the Los Angeles Rams

2014 saw the Patriots win another Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks after a famous goal line interception, and 2016 was another dramatic victory as they came back from a huge deficit for a win over the Atlanta Falcons.

It takes a lot to be Tom Brady, and on top of being one of the NFL’s greatest ever players, he also has to keep up with his family life. Luckily for him, his wife Gisele Bundchen is doing pretty well for herself too, as one of the highest paid supermodels in the world.

The pair met in 2006, shortly after a relationship between Brady and actress Bridget Moynahan ended. Bundchen and Brady married in 2009 and they have two children, Benjamin Rein and Vivian Lake. Brady also has a son, John, with Moynahan.

As one of the highest paid couples in the world, Brady and Bundchen live for most of the year in luxury in their Massachussets mansion. It has five bedrooms, a large kitchen to accommodate Brady’s dietary needs, a library, a wine storage room, and a gym. It was custom built just for their tastes, and they paid $4.5million for the design.

They also have an impressive $20million condo in the 70 Vestry building in Tribeca, New York, overlooking the Hudson river. They also own other properties in Boston and Los Angeles.

Tom Brady also owns a large number of cars, each more impressive than the last. The crown jewel in his collection is the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which costs around $3million. The rest of his garage is filled out with Rolls Royces, Ferraris, and Aston Martins.

If Tom Brady can get yet another Super Bowl win on Sunday and secure his legacy as the greatest player of all time, it’s tough to imagine what else he can buy in celebration.
