The Mets will have to stay hot without the best pitcher in baseball.
The Mets will place Jacob deGrom on the injured list on Tuesday as he deals with right side tightness, the team announced. The move will be retroactive to Monday. The good news is the MRI exam revealed no concerning issues beyond that.
DeGrom left Sunday’s start against the Diamondbacks after five innings. The ace threw two warmup pitches ahead of the sixth inning before exiting.
Manager Luis Rojas said this injury was not connected to the right lat soreness that forced deGrom to miss his previous start.
DeGrom is 3-2 with a 0.68 ERA through six starts so far this season. The Mets have won five straight games and are in first place in the NL East.
