Klay Thompson wasn’t acting or talking like he had just suffered a devastating injury.
The Warriors star tore his ACL after an awkward landing with 2:22 left in the third quarter of Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Raptors. Thompson still sank two free throws that put the Warriors up 85-80 before going to the bench.
After the Raptors’ 114-110 championship-sealing victory, Warriors coach Steve Kerr revealed what Thompson told him there.
“Just a two minute rest, I’ll be ready,” Kerr, who did not know the severity of the injury during the postgame press conference, said.
Instead Thompson, who had 30 points in the game, would soon leave Oracle Arena on crutches and the Warriors’ dynasty faces another challenge.
Kevin Durant suffered a ruptured Achilles in Game 5 — and no matter which team he signs with this offseason — he will have to sit out the entire 2019-’20 season. Thompson is also becoming a free agent and before the injury the Warriors had planned to offer him a max deal.
