The Subway Series brought some fireworks to The Bronx over the weekend, holding the largest crowds there since 2019. There were 42,000 fans at each of the doubleheader games Sunday and 40,000 on Saturday. Unfortunately for the home fans, the Yankees didn’t give them a ton to cheer for. The Mets took two out of three as they remain in first place, while the Yankees trail the Red Sox by 10 games in the AL East.
To talk about the ugly state of the Yankees right now and what comes next, we bring you a new episode of the “Pinstripe Pod” with Chris Shearn and Jeff Nelson, featuring a conversation with ESPN Radio NY’s Chris Carlin.
Pinstripe Pod Opening Segment with Chris, Jeff & Jake:
- SERIES LOSS: Gerrit Cole is struggling without the sticky stuff. Aroldis Chapman has been terrible. Neither of them deserved a spot in the All-Star Game. Their breaking balls are not breaking like they used to. The Yankees are 8-9 when Cole starts.
- SELLERS: Are the Yankees sellers now before the trade deadline? Who would they realistically trade? Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton could be good for west coast teams. Also, we evaluate my legends club food intake over the weekend and break down the Subway Series atmosphere.
Chris Carlin Interview:
Host of “Carlin” on ESPN Radio NY 98.7 FM , friend of the program
- STATE OF YANKEES: They are so bad with runners in scoring position. No sticky stuff is clearly hurting Cole and Chapman. They have been bad in the past month.
- RESET: Time for Yankees to hit reset button and trade some pieces?
