More bets taken on Man United to win Premier League title than Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea, according to bookies

MORE bets have been taken on Manchester United to win the Premier League title than any other top-flight team, according to Betfair.

Despite struggling in recent weeks, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been backed more than Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool for 2021-22 glory.

The Red Devils are anchored in sixth position and trail leaders Chelsea by nine points having won just ONE of their last SIX.

But clearly punters think a drastic change of fortunes could be just around the corner with 19 per cent of all bets placed going for the Old Trafford heavyweights.

United were available at 8/1 to wrestle the title away from City at the beginning of the campaign.

However, they can now be backed at a whopping 109/1 on Betfair Exchange, despite boasting one of the strongest squads in the division.

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently the favourites to retain the title at 8/11.

Despite not having the most amount of bets placed on them, they are the team with the most money wagered on them, at £2.2million.

Chelsea and Liverpool are the next most popular at 14 per cent and 13 per cent respectively.

Betfair Spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom said: "With the Premier League returning this weekend, we can reveal that the side with the most bets on the Betfair Exchange Premier League winners market is Manchester United.

"This may come as a surprise to many who have watched them play this season, they are currently nine points off the top and are 109/1 to lift a 21st league title come the end of the season.

"The odds are well against them, but we can’t deny that the punters love them.

"Almost 20 per cent of all bets we have taken have been for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

"Before a ball was kicked this season, the Red Devils were 8/1 to win the competition, but now after a number of disappointing performances, they are a whopping 109/1 to finish the season in the top spot.

"Their crosstown rivals, Manchester City have also been well supported, with 16% of all the bets in the market going for Pep Guardiola’s side.

"In fact, almost £2.2 million has been bet on City to retain the title, the largest amount of money wagered for one team so far this season.

"At 8/11 favourites, they are very much fancied to add another Premier League win to their list of honours."

Betfair Ambassador, Dimitar Berbatov added: "As an ex-player of Man United I am surprised in a good way to hear that people still have confidence in United.

"I hope the team turn things around and go on to win the title, but it's difficult to think that it will happen especially after the last few games.

"United's title odds are very big at the moment and there's still a lot of the season to go.

"Football surprises people all the time, but if United don't correct the way they play, especially in defence, then they will suffer more."
