Mourinho admits he's 'flattered' by Real Madrid links as he targets return to management

The former Manchester United boss has emerged as an early favourite to replace struggling Santiago Solari at the Bernabeu.

The 56-year-old claimed he is desperate to get back to work because he has not a won trophy for 18 months.

Mourinho is honoured that he's been tipped to take over the Spanish side, but confirmed he has not been approached by the club yet.

Speaking on beIN Sports, he said: "Mr [Javier Tebas MedranoTebas, the La Liga president, I think it is very flattering that he names me as someone who could bring something to his La Liga.

"He's doing an amazing job in Spain and to mention me is very flattering.

"Mr [Roman] Cauldron, obviously an ex-president of Real Madrid, I'm pretty sure that probably he has some general information about the club of his passion.

"But he knows more than me because I know absolute nothing about it."

Mourinho has been out of work since he was sacked by United in December following a shocking run of results.

Former Real Madrid president Roman Calderon has already predicted that he will be back in charge at the Bernabeu next season.

But Mourinho also hinted he could return to Inter Milan as he reminisced on the "happy" days.

The 56-year-old claimed he is ready to return to management as he still feels as young as he did when he started.

He added: "I'm young for a manager, I'm really young and I think age is in your brain, in your heart and in your passion.

"I can say that I am no different at all from when I started in football and the fact that I have a big desire to be back is because I haven't won a trophy for 18 months."
