Ever since Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement in March, the watch has been on for how long it will actually last.
Gronkowski’s own agent, Drew Rosenhaus, isn’t even sure it’s permanent, especially if a certain former Patriots teammate convinces him to eventually come back.
But before then, the tight end might just talk himself out of it.
“You never know, if you mess around that much about it, I might convince myself [to return],” Gronkowski said Wednesday on the red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards. “I kind of like [retirement] right now, I’m resting, recovering, I’m feeling good. It’s all going good.”
Gronkowski, who presented an award at the show, said he likes to mess with people and tell them he’s “Fake retired.” But only Gronk could make himself believe it, too.
“I say I’m coming back next week, but yes, I’m actually retired,” Gronkowski said. “But I like to mess around, sometimes tell people I’m really not.”
For now, the 29-year-old is done after nine seasons in the NFL, which included three Super Bowl rings, five Pro Bowls and too many spikes to count.
