Thomas Tuchel denies rift with Rabiot as Chelsea and Arsenal line up move for PSG star

The midfielder is heading for the exit door having refused to extend his contract with the French champions.

Rabiot can talk to European clubs in January and agree a free transfer ahead of a move in the summer.

The 23-year-old has started 12 out of the club's 16 league games this season but has been left on the bench in recent weeks.

And Tuchel has had to deny claims that the Frenchman has been left out following a bust-up.

He said: "Nothing broke between us but there is a lot of competition between the players here.

"In my opinion, Adrien lost some confidence and his place because also Julian Draxler took his chance. The team played well, we won.

"It is difficult and that's why every game is important. Every player needs to perform at every game, every training session.

"They need to show that they are ready to win."

Barcelona are the favourites to land Rabiot, with reports in Spain suggesting that a deal is close to being done.

Chelsea and Arsenal are also keen to bring him to the Premier League.

SunSport exclusively revealed how PSG could target Southampton's Mario Lemina as his replacement.

The Gabon international is high on a five-man shortlist and are ready to test Ralph Hasenhuttl with a £30million bid.

PSG are also looking at Ajax’s Frenkie De Jong as a new central midfielder but competition for the Dutchman means they have drawn up alternatives.

Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure, Everton’s Idrissa Gueye and Salzburg’s Diadie Samassekou are all too under consideration.
