In the wake of the U.S. military air strike that killed a top Iranian commander last week and the subsequent increasing tensions in the Middle East, the U.S. men's soccer team scrubbed its plans to train in Doha, Qatar, from Jan. 5-25.
But 19-year-old Sergiño Dest, a Dutch-born American soccer player with dual citizenship, traveled to the country for the training camp of his club team, Ajax. On Thursday, the team announced Dest asked to leave the camp because "he didn't feel comfortable."
Ajax allowed Dest to return to the Netherlands, where he will train with the youth team until the first squad returns.
