AFTER being halted in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Tokyo Olympics now taking place in summer 2021.

Who will host the 2032 Olympics?

Brisbane is expected to be the host of the 2032 Olympics.

It is scheduled to be selected and announced by the International Olympic Committee on July 21.

Queensland is the strong favourite after the International Olympic Committee unanimously backed the Australian state as its first "non-binding" choice.

Russia, Indonesia, Budapest, China, Doha and Germany's Ruhr valley have also shown interest.

But Queensland capital Brisbane won bonus points for having many suitable sporting venues, an impressive masterplan, experience in organising major events and favourable weather.

In 2024, Paris will host while in 2028 the games will take place in Los Angeles.

When are the 2020 Olympics taking place?

The 2020 Olympics did not take place in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic and are instead being postponed by 12 months.

They are set to be held almost 12 months later to the day:

  • OLYMPICS START DATE: July 23, 2021
  • OLYMPICS END DATE: August 8, 20201

The Paralympics have also been moved back a year, taking place between August 24, 2021 and September 5, 2021.

How can I watch the 2020 Olympics on TV and online?

The BBC and Eurosport have the rights to broadcast the Olympics this year.

As well as being broadcast live on BBC One, the opening ceremony will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer, with extra coverage on the BBC Red Button and the BBC Sport website.
