Just weeks after giving birth to her third child, Alex Jones was back in The One Show studio for a special episode. Alongside Jermaine Jenas, the host was revealing the RHS Chelsea Flower Show’s Garden of Hope. But before viewers could see the garden, Alex told viewers she’d had to hand over baby Annie to her mother moments before going on air.
“For one night only, it’s Alex Jones,” Jermaine announced as the show began.
Alex exclaimed: “Oh hi! It’s so nice to be back.”
“How have you been? We’ve missed you,” Jermaine continued.
The host explained: “We’ve great. The boys are taking to little Annie brilliantly.
“Annie’s here with mum and dad, I literally, honestly, she’s just gone back to mum.
“I had to feed her first. I was like, ‘She’s not going to stop feeding.’ But she’s out there.”
“Your back for a special reason aren’t you? To help us reveal the RHS Garden of Hope at the Chelsea Flower Show today,” Jermaine continued.
Alex replied: “We had a lovely say out didn’t we.”
The garden was designed by award-winning garden designer and TV presenter Arit Anderson and illustrates how gardening and growing plants provides hope and joy as we look forward to enjoying the fruits of our labour as our plants flourish and grow.
Arit said of the garden: “It’s been five months in the making and with a fantastic team I’m so proud of the garden we have created.
“Thanks to Charlie Whinney and his studio for creating the fantastic steam-bent sculptures, Mark Gregory and his expert landscape team, and of course the horticultural team and all the volunteers who plant the stars of the show.
“Everyone who’s supplied us went the extra mile to make this garden special.
“I hope this garden going to the Rosewood mother and baby unit will help provide the sanctuary and rejuvenation they need.”
Alex added of her return: “It’s such a delight to come back and see the Garden Of Hope come together so beautifully.
“Arit really has made such a beautiful nurturing space and I’m sure it will make our viewers very happy.”
As The One Show came to an end, Jermaine asked Alex to return soon.
“I’ll dip back in soon. Have a lovely show tomorrow, it is good to be back,” Alex told her co-host.
Alex will be returning to her maternity leave as Jermaine and Ronan Keating continue to host in her presence.
The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm.
