Ant McPartlin is back behind the wheel 15 months after devastating drink-drive smash – The Sun

ANT McPartlin is seen back behind the wheel for the first time after his drink-drive ban ended early.

The TV star, 43, cut five months off his 20-month court punishment by completing a course.

Girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett was a passenger as he drove his Range Rover in West London.

Ant lost his licence after slamming into a family’s car, causing a child to require medical attention.

He was allowed to drive again from Tuesday after taking a specialist rehabilitation course for drink-drivers, which cut five months off his 20-month ban.

And those close to the Geordie star say that while he is delighted to be back behind the wheel, he remains conscious of the seriousness of the situation.

A source said: “It hasn’t diminished the impact of everything which has happened, and remains fresh in his mind.

“It’s been a dreadful time and he has many regrets, but he’s very pleased to be getting back to normality too.

“The course is not something unique to him or his celeb status. Anyone could have done the same. It usually leads to a ban being reduced by a quarter.”

Ant was also fined £86,000 in April last year after admitting being more than twice the drink-drive limit when he crashed in Richmond, South West London, a month earlier.

At the time, he said he was “truly sorry” for the incident — which led him to seek treatment for alcohol addiction and suspend all of his TV work.

Sidekick Dec Donnelly, 43, went on to host Saturday Night Takeaway alone and I’m A Celebrity with Holly Willoughby.

Ant drove his Range Rover — with girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett, 43, in the passenger seat — as they visited their new home in West London.

He had been driving a Mini when he slammed into a car containing restaurant boss Faheem Vanoo, wife Shilpa, four-year-old daughter Amaira and two colleagues.

Faheem said: “This matter is closed. We want to move on with our lives — so does he.”
