Outlander season five proved to be an emotional one, especially for Jamie Fraser’s (played by Sam Heughan) godfather Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix) and his aunt Jocasta (Maria Kennedy). At the beginning of season five, fans of the romantic Starz drama were getting teary at the heartfelt first episode as the pair danced together in the cabin. So much so that viewers have started to question if the chemistry continues when the actors are away from the cameras.

Are Outlander’s Murtagh Fitzgibbons and Aunt Jocasta a couple in real life?

Murtagh had been in love with Jamie’s mum Ellen (Anita Hegh) for years, devastating her sister Jocasta.

She had idolised him for decades from afar, trying to hide her true feelings for the man that didn’t want to be with her.

But in the later series of Outlander, this is no longer the case as Murtagh and Jocasta have found themselves drawn to one another.

They have become the latest couple that Outlander fans are now rooting for.

Talking about their newfound relationship to Digital Spy, actress Kennedy said: “I think the sparks are there, certainly.

“She’s devastated [when he has to leave].

“He has to leave at the end and go into hiding at the end of season four.

“She knows what a rebel he is, he’s always in trouble… So she definitely feels hugely for him and this love they’ve ignited, and she fears for him.”

But in terms of any real-life romance between the actors behind Murtagh and Jocasta, there simply isn’t any.

Actor Lacroix is believed to be single with no signs of a girlfriend or wife.

Kennedy, on the other hand, is married to Keiran Kennedy and have been together for more than three decades.

They are still going strong with the couple now having four children.

Besides Outlander, the Irish actress is probably best known for playing Catherine of Aragon in The Tudors.

But very little else is known about the private lives of either star.

Both have tended to keep any personal matters out of the spotlight and so do not talk about such things publicly.

In fact, all of the Outlander cast has tended to remain quiet about their love lives.

Despite the frequent heartwarming and sensual scenes, it is unknown if any of the onscreen couples are dating.

Outlander was renewed for a sixth season last year by Starz.

Fans have been urging for the return of the romantic drama but there is no sign of the new episodes coming any time soon.

However, it is believed that season six will premiere in 2022 but an exact release date hasn’t been announced.

Outlander is available to watch on Starz and Starzplay on Amazon Prime Video.
