After two grueling charters, Chef Mila Kolomeitseva from Below Deck Mediterranean was finally fired. From microwaved steaks to slimy fish from a can, Kolomeitseva seemed to hit all the wrong culinary notes.
The crew, especially chief stew Hannah Ferrier seemed horrified. For the most part, the crew worried they might be penalized when it came to their tip. Ferrier and bosun João Franco discussed how a bad chef could result in a poor tip.
Thankfully for the crew, Kolomeitseva’s final guest was Captain Sandy Yawn’s good friend Dr. Jennifer Berman. And even though Berman punctuated that the food wasn’t up to par, she didn’t stiff the crew on their tip.
But Franco made this stunning comment
Franco recently visited People TV and said Kolomeitseva’s cooking wasn’t all that bad–at least not for the crew. After watching a clip, Franco was asked about the chef being dismissed. While he said it was a relief for everyone he also gave some insight into what Kolomeitseva’s cooking was like for the crew.
The reporter asked if Franco observed any other culinary catastrophe that viewers weren’t privy to. “Not necessarily, I think right in the beginning her food on the crew side, which everyone asks, was actually great,” he says.
When Kolomeitseva prepped tacos using Old El Paso for the guests, Yawn thought the tacos were for the crew instead.
But then again, most of the crew is living on snacks (or nothing)
Feeding the crew is part of a yacht chef’s job. Chef Adam Glick even admitted it was tough to make sure the crew was properly fed while concentrating on impressing the guests. The crew was often filmed foraging for scraps from time to time until Glick would produce a nice meal.
But eating on charter seems to be a weird experience for crew members. Bravo captured a video of what the crew typically eats on charter and one answer was crazier than the next. Ferrier said she tends to just not eat on charter due to stress. Franco admitted he gravitates toward junk food on charter. “The first thing you grab for when you are tired is a sweet in the jar,” he said while laughing. “Just gotta keep my hands out of the cookie jar this year.”
Yawn’s go-to is sugar-free Redbull and peanut M&M’s. Deckhand Travis Michalzik joked, “On charter, I will probably eat chocolate every day to soothe the emptiness you have inside.”
Meanwhile, Colin Macy-O’Toole reminds us of this
Even though Franco enjoyed Kolomeitseva’s food, deckhand Colin Macy-O’Toole reminded viewers what she was cooking probably wasn’t the safest. A few weeks ago he went viral with his rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” But the song was set to the latest drama surrounding the Kolomeitseva.
Macy-O’Toole began his version of the song with, “Mila, almost killed a man” instead of “Mama, just killed a man.” The song was parodied after Kolomeitseva served up the slimy fish to guests.
Now that Kolomeitseva has left, the baton was handed to Anastasia Surmava. So far she’s nailing every meal in the galley kitchen.
