Best known as girl-next-door Penny in CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco has taken on some unexpected new roles since the show concluded last year. Now, a brand new trailer for The Flight Attendant on HBO Max has teased her first live-action career move since leaving the sitcom.
The 12th and final season of The Big Bang Theory wrapped up last year following the departure of Sheldon Cooper himself, Jim Parsons.
Since the hit comedy series finished in 2019, the show’s stellar cast have been able to branch out into more dramatic roles.
Streamers have already been impressed by the first trailer for a new miniseries, The Flight Attendant, which stars Kaley Cuoco.
The delightfully twisty teaser for HBO Max’s new crime drama puts Cuoco’s Cassie Bowden in the centre of a strange and steamy murder mystery.
Based on the novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian, The Flight Attendant features Cuoco as an amnesiac stewardess on the run from the law.
Cassie’s life is thrown out of balance when a one-night stand goes horribly wrong and she wakes up in bed with a dead body and no recollection of the night’s events.
Despite her weak alibi, the bewildered flight attendant must find a way to convince the authorities of her innocence before it’s too late.
The new trailer served up some familiar Dead to Me and Gone Girl vibes, accompanied by, what else, but a sultry cover of ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears.
Set to arrive on November 26, The Flight Attendant is poised to become a big hit for HBO Max, which has already started to dominate the streaming airwaves after launching in May this year.
Since The Big Bang Theory’s conclusion, Kaley Cuoco is best known for voicing the animated iteration of Harley Quinn, which has been renewed for a third season, also on HBO.
Her first live-action drama post-Big Bang is set to be a reunion of sorts, as Rosie Perez co-stars after joining Margot Robbie’s version of the Joker’s ex-girlfriend in Birds of Prey.
The miniseries also features Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who), Michiel Huisman (The Haunting of Hill House) and Zosia Mamet (Girls).

After Cuoco’s filming schedule was largely dominated by her sitcom duties, Big Bang fans were thrilled to see the first-look at a very different role for the comedy star.
Her followers took to the comments to show their appreciation when the trailer was dropped on YouTube.
Nodding to her Big Bang character’s aspirations, one fan said: “Penny really became an amazing actress,” while another added “OMG! Penny has made it as an actress!!!”
Although the comedy star has made small appearances and cameos in features and series over the years, The Flight Attendant marks Cuoco’s highest profile lead role to date.
Fans are hoping the actress will be following in co-star Jim Parsons’ footsteps, who impressed Netflix users this year with an Emmy-nominated performance in Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood.
Excited potential viewers have also noted Greg Berlanti’s connection, who worked on the surprise hit You for Lifetime and Netflix.
On Reddit, one commenter said: “Looks like a fun, kind-of-trashy romp similar to You (with one of the co-creators). One early reaction I saw to the first couple episodes seem to be positive.”
Production was initially halted in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, but Cuoco and her co-stars were able to complete work on the series just in time to make The Flight Attendant a must-watch for winter.
The first three episodes of The Flight Attendant will be released on November 26 on HBO Max.
