'Big Little Lies' Season 2 Is Officially Premiering This Summer

Mark your calendars: Big Little Lies is finally returning this summer with its second season premiering in June 2019, HBO announced today.

The network also revealed new images from the show, featuring Reese Witherspoon (Madeline), Nicole Kidman (Celeste), Laura Dern (Renata), Shailene Woodley (Jane), and Zoë Kravitz (Bonnie)—your favorite moms from Monterey.

In one shot, they appear to be gathered at their children’s school, but they all look like they’re up to something.

Another image shows Madeline speaking to Bonnie at the luxe bohemian home she shares with Nathan.

Another pic shows Celeste, Madeline, Renata, and Jane chatting over coffee on a windy day at the beach.

And of course, the new star of Season 2, Meryl Streep, makes an appearance. The iconic Oscar winner is joining the cast this season as Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Celeste’s late husband Perry, who met his demise in the Season 1 finale. A fourth photo shows her speaking to her daughter-in-law at dinner in what looks like a tense conversation.

The legendary actress has already made a few cameos in behind-the-scenes photos and other promotional footage. One clip from the upcoming season, which appeared in an ad for HBO’s 2019 programming, shows Streep’s Mary Louise worrying about the truth of her son’s death.

“I want to know what happened that night,” she says in a concerned voice.

Details about the Season 2 plot remain under wraps, but HBO previously revealed that the show will “continue to explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting.”

In addition to starring, Witherspoon and Kidman are resuming their roles as executive producers on the Emmy-winning drama, which is based on the best-selling 2014 novel by Liane Moriarty.
