Chris Evans kept Nicole Kidman holding on the line for 15 minutes during his Radio 2 farewells

She was trying to surprise the breakfast show host with a request on his last day at the BBC.

Chris, 52, said afterwards: “I thought we had someone on the phone who was requesting a record.

“What I didn’t know is that the team had called Nicole Kidman and she was hanging on the phone for 14 minutes from a beach in Australia. Apparently she loved it, which is good.”

Actress Nicole, 51, wanted him to play Chuck Berry’s 1958 hit Run Rudolph Run.

Chris, who starts a new ad-free breakfast show on Virgin Radio on January 21, told BBC listeners not to “shed too many tears” during his final Radio 2 broadcast on Christmas Eve.

He also paid tribute to his wife Natasha Shishmanian, 38, who is mum to four of his five kids.

Chris, who took over from Terry Wogan in 2010, will be replaced by Zoe Ball, 48.

He said: “It’s a sad day today. But it is also an exciting day for everyone.”
