Claudia Winkleman is back on screens with the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One. The presenter is on hand to offer support to the celebrities competing but Claudia has a famous sibling. Her sister Sophie Winkleman married into the royal family.
Who is Claudia Winkleman’s sister?
Claudia is best known for presenting Strictly Come Dancing, but her sister has married into the most famous family in the world.
Claudia’s half-sister, Sophie, married Lord Frederick Windsor back in 2009.
He is the son of the Queen’s first cousin Prince Michael of Kent, making Sophie one of the newest additions to the royals.
The pair have two daughters, Isabella, five, and Maud, eight.
Speaking to The Times in 2020, Sophie talked about the wonderful time she has shared with the Royal Family since becoming a member in 2009.
Sophie explained: “I’ve been incredibly welcomed with open arms by all of them.
“The Queen’s been wonderful, Prince Charles has been wonderful, Prince William’s been heaven.
“They’d never tell me off at all if I wanted to play some [racy] role. Everyone’s looked after me. Oh God, please don’t make me sound too gushing.”
Of course, Sophie is referring to her acting career, with both the Winkleman sisters enjoying the limelight.
For Sophie, she is best known for playing Big Suze in Channel 4’s Peep Show, starring alongside David Mitchell’s Mark Corrigan and Robert Webb’s Jeremy Usborne.
She also starred alongside Olivia Colman in Peep Show, with Olivia later playing her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, in The Crown.
However, Sophie admitted to The Times she hadn’t watched the show and her experience in the family had been completely different to the Windsors portrayal in the Netflix series.
Despite Claudia and Sophie being sisters, the two didn’t share a childhood together.
Sophie explained in the same interview they lived separate lives as “Claudia lived with her mum,” Eve Pollard.
Sophie, 41, is eight years younger than Claudia, 49, also separating their childhoods.
They share the same father, publisher Barry Winkleman, though it seems their lives are still very separate today.
Despite becoming a member of the Royal Family, Sophie is still acting, with her latest role being in Strike as Kinvara Chiswell.
She is also known for appearing in Endeavour, Trust, Two and a Half Men, and Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry and Paul.
Outside of this, Sophie chooses to keep most of her personal life private, with the star not active on any social media.
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
