Cliff Richard ditches self-imposed topless pic ban as he strips off for calendar

Sir Cliff Richard has backtracked on his past comment, saying he would never strip off for his calendar again as it was "too late".

The singer was interviewed from his Florida home by Ross King on Friday's episode of Lorraine.

The music legend, 81, was on the show to discuss his latest music, but showbiz reporter Ross had to ask about his latest calendar – and one shot in particular.

Ross said: "Lorraine Kelly CBE was interviewing you and you said, 'No more topless photographs.'"

Viewers were then show a clip of the sprightly Living Doll singer posing shirtless in a swimming pool.

Previously, to the amusement of Lorraine, Sir Cliff replied: "I am not stripping off my shirt anymore, it's too late."

Ross responded: "You did it! You did go topless."

Sir Cliff then gamely explained: "You can't swim with a shirt on.

"So I had a picture taken where I was up to my shoulders in water and I had a rum punch in my hand."

His calendar is a popular stocking filler for many fans, and still ranks as one of the UK's best selling calendars.

Sir Cliff has sold over 1.5million calendars since his first one went on sale all the way back in 1979.

His 2022 offering was shot mostly in New York, with one picture taken in Barbados, where he owns a luxury villa.

Sir Cliff's spokesman said: “The Calendar was shot in NYC earlier in 2021, with one additional image taken in Barbados. Given the global pandemic, formal plans for the annual Calendar shoot were changed to a more journalistic viewpoint of a Brit in USA finding picturesque spots within the environs of Central Park and nearby.

"Sir Cliff loved the informality of the shoot and was able to direct the creative himself.”

In other news, Sir Cliff has collaborated with Collabro on a new version of his festive favourite Mistleoe & Wine.

The BGT winners toured with Sir Cliff as special guests in 2017. He has told fans that the song has been given "a 21st century upgrade".
