Sally (played by Sally Dynevor) has begun to notice Tim (Joe Duttine) has become very cold towards her on Coronation Street, unaware he is secretly battling some serious health issues. The father of one has found a confidant in Aggie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw) as he continues to push his wife away. However, in upcoming scenes on the ITV soap, it seems his attitude towards his spouse could be irreversible if she states she no longer wants to be married to him. This could mean the couple will split for good as Tim is unable to admit what’s going on with his health, leaving the nation heartbroken as they bid goodbye to another long-standing couple.
The drama begins next week as Tim returns home after running out on Sally’s attempts to seduce him, spending the night sleeping in the taxi cab office instead.
He explains to his wife he hasn’t gone off her at all but he’d had a stressful day and needed some space to get his thoughts together.
Not long after telling his spouse more lies, Aggie turns up and insists her neighbour goes to see the cardiologist for a follow-up appointment after being given the news he needs a triple heart bypass.
Sitting with the medical professional, the father of one learns about what will happen in the operation and he will receive a letter with the date of the surgery in due course.
This leaves the beloved character shaken to the core as he’s left terrified about whether or not he’s going to die in the near future.
Knowing she needs to get her relationship back on track, Sally suggests she and her husband take a dip in the hot tub when he returns home.
Once again, Tim makes excuses not to spend time with his wife and she is left devastated by the constant rejection.
However, her mood is lifted later on when she’s told by Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) Tim bought a bunch of flowers earlier that day.
The mother of two is delighted but she doesn’t realise they are actually for Aggie to thank her for being so supportive.
Expecting to be given the flowers when she returns home, Sally is confused when her husband decides he’s going to go to bed.
Colossal threat to what Tim and Sally
She is adamant he is hiding something from her but Sally can’t put her finger on what it could be, possibly thinking her spouse is having an affair.
Later on, Tim is seen confiding in his friend Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) he is going to be having a triple heart bypass in the near future.
The father of one explains he cannot tell his wife as he is scared he is going to die, which would leave her utterly heartbroken.
Peter is left deeply concerned when his friend makes him promise not to tell anyone, not even Sally who is worrying non-stop.
When Tim returns home and takes off his coat, he knocks over the couple’s wedding photo and it smashes to smithereens.
This seems to be a big hint the married couple are heading for a divorce as they can’t seem to communicate properly.
An official end to their marriage would mean they would split for good, something Tim thinks could save his wife a lot of heartbreak.
The couple splitting up would mean Sally wouldn’t have to look after her husband if he were to become seriously ill.
Tim loves his wife too much to allow her to go through the pain of seeing him slip away so a split could be the right way for him to walk away.
Having become a couple fans love and adore, this split would change the very face of the show as it seems no one is safe from spotting up.
Speaking with Express.co.uk and other publications, executive producer Iain MacLeod hinted this storyline could be the end of Sally and Tim.
The show boss explained: “What starts off small ends up being this colossal threat to what Tim and Sally think they know about each other, themselves and the nature of their relationship and what that might look like for the rest of their lives together. It’s massive.
“I love Tim and Sally as they feel like an iconic Corrie couple. Every so often somebody comes to a story conference and pitches something that splits them up and sends them off with different people.
“It always starts a massive argument, as it did when we talked about doing it with Fiz [Stape – Jennie McAlpine] and Tyrone [Dobbs – Alan Halsall].
“Tim and Sally feel right together and are peas in a pod, so that’s why this story will matter to our audience. There’ll be a huge level of investment in whether they can get over this hurdle or not.”
Taking to Twitter, viewers have been sharing their thoughts on whether this could be the end of the line for the beloved couple.
Amanda Jane posted: “I’m a big Tim and Sally fan but I can see the writing on the wall. Why do I love soaps so much when it causes so much emotional pain? #Corrie.”
Mike wrote: “Tim needs to tell Sally everything that’s going on because their marriage will fall apart if he doesn’t tell the truth #Corrie.”
It’s Only Me commented: “Sally and Tim are the best thing #Corrie… don’t kill him off I will miss their one liners @itvcorrie.”
“Poor Sally. Why the hell doesn’t Tim just tell her the truth already seriously? #Corrie,” Grianne shared on the social media platform.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
