Coronation Street spoilers: Johnny Connor sacks Liz from the Rovers in the hopes of saving his marriage to Jenny after drunk row about ex mistress

In an explosive hour-long festive episode, Johnny then sacks Liz in a bid to save his marriage, but Liz storms off and an emotional Jenny is waiting in the shadows.

Fearing that Johnny and Liz are still at it, the Rovers landlady has been hitting the wine to cope.

As she downs bottle after bottle, Jenny ends up in two accidental but nasty household incidents, which leaves her with a black eye and bruised ribs.

Unfortunately for Jenny, barmaid Gemma gets the wrong end of the stick and accuses Johnny of being a wife beater.

Revealing all to Inside Soap, actress Sally Ann Matthews who plays Jenny Connor says: "Everything unravels on Christmas Day."

Sally Ann explains: "Jenny's been all over the place for more than three weeks, and she has a black eye and bruised ribs, which Gemma knows that she and Johnny have been shouting at each-other. On Christmas morning, however, the pair have reconciled, and it's all set to be great until Gemma sticks her oar in. Jenny tells Gemma that she is wrong about Johnny yet it does cross her mind to play it that way."

Things spiral out of control quickly, with Jenny telling her husband she doesn't trust him and Johnny telling a furious Liz she is sacked before she storms off.

It seems life may never be the same for the trio after Christmas Day.

"Jenny is unhinged at this point, so you never know what she'll do next," says Sally Ann.
