Coronation Street welcomed smooth-talking businessman Lucas to Weatherfield on Friday night, as he tried his best to sweep Carla Connor off her feet.
While the Northern Irish charmer was filled with confidence, he has suffered a great deal of heartbreak in recent years, losing a girlfriend to addiction.
When Lucas and Carla (Alison King) first met in Devon, he was in a relationship with a woman named Lucy, meaning a fling with the Corrie barmaid was off the cards.
Carla has since returned to Weatherfield, falling head over heels for Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), and trying her best to support him through his alcoholism.
However, Lucas understands her heartache better than anyone, having lost a loved one to addiction in the past.
Struggling with addiction, his partner Lucy died of a fatal drug overdose, leaving him broken-hearted and battling feelings of regret.
Ahead of his Corrie debut, actor Glen Wallace opened up about the role, reflecting on the loss Lucas has suffered in recent years.
He said: "His girlfriend Lucy passed away of a drug overdose."
According to the soap star, Lucas recognises his own struggle when he looks at Carla's relationship with Peter and tries his best to intervene.
The former EastEnders actor said: "He's coming from experience, there's parallels between her relationship with Peter and his relationship with Lucy.
"He has gone through that relationship, of being that caring partner, and looking after someone who is addicted to something.
"It maybe sounds a little bit callous now but he can look back on it and think that he's wasted his life and he really doesn't want Carla to do the same thing.
"He's talking about it from a place of experience."
Glen added: "She's maybe had her eye turned before, but what he's saying is ‘I've been there, I know what it's like. I can talk you through it, I can recognise the signals. I don't want you to do what I did'."
Returning in upcoming scenes, Lucas is determined to win Carla over, realising his feelings for her never went away after she left Devon.
While her relationship with Peter is an obstacle, Glen hinted Lucas will stop at nothing to bag the woman of his dreams.
He said: "He's coming from a place of experience, he's coming from a place of not wanting to miss an opportunity.
"He doesn't take no for an answer."
With the arrival of Lucas on the scene, is it curtains for Carla and Peter?
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
