Daisy May Cooper's dad based This Country character on serial killer Fred West

Celebrity Gogglebox star Paul Cooper based his This Country character on the serial killer Fred West.

Makes sense, Paul.

Paul and his daughter Daisy May Cooper have become fan favourites on Celebrity Gogglebox – and they are just as funny on camera as they are off-camera.

The pair starred as father and daughter in the hilarious mockumentary This Country, which Daisy co-wrote with her brother Charlie Cooper.

Speaking about how his character as Martin Mucklowe began, Paul told Metro.co.uk: ‘I had always been desperate to do something like this and Daisy said well “you kinda look like me and we have the same genes so why don’t you give it a go and do a screen test?”‘

Paul added that because he had never done any acting roles before, he was unsure about how he should sound and act as Martin, aka Dirty Peeper.

‘They were looking at a minor character and I asked “well how should I sound, who shall I be?”‘ he continued.

‘And they said “listen to the police interviews of Fred West – that quiet kind of voice but saying chilling things” so I went on YouTube and listened to those and got the voice.’

Fred West and his wife Rose killed 12 women between 1967 and 1987.

Their victims included Rose’s eight-year-old stepdaughter Charmaine and 16-year-old daughter Heather, and the couple infamously buried the bodies of some of their victims at their home address in Gloucester.

‘When I did the screen test I wrote a little bit around that and actually a bit of that was actually kept in like the Fred West playing pool part,’ Paul added.

‘And the producer said “yeh” and the part grew from there.’

Well, now we know!
