Dancing on Ice star claims judges booted her from show to let others flourish

Dancing on Ice star Cheryl Baker is convinced she was booted from the ITV skating competition in order to let better skaters flourish on the show.

The Buck’s Fizz star, 68, competed on the hugely popular talent show back in 2018 with her professional skating partner Daniel Whiston.

And it’s fair to say the songstress loved her time on the ice as she gushed about how she made “friends for life” while battling it out for a place in the final.

Now, five years after the series ended, the blonde bombshell has sensationally claimed that she was actually eliminated from the programme so that better contestants could continue.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Cheryl said her best performance on the programme was actually her final routine in week five which landed her in the dreaded skate off against singer Lemar.

When asked what her favourite routine was, she recalled: “It was the last one which was when we danced to She’s Always A Woman To Me by Billy Joel, that was my favourite.

“I think it was our best performance but I think the judges thought it was about time I went, because when I was kept in, better skaters were going out.”

She explained: “I was getting votes for the wrong reason, it wasn’t because I was a good skater, I was getting the sympathy votes and that was preventing the good skaters from going through.

“It’s true that you can have an entire journey on these shows whether you deserve it or not if the audience love you.

“To be perfectly frank, I feel sorry for the ones that went home instead of me but I'm really glad I stayed in it as long as I did.”

It comes after the group announced they would be hosting a belated 40th anniversary special gig at London’s Indigo in March 2023 to mark the anniversary of their Eurovision victory.

The show will feature cuts spanning the trio’s career alongside more recent material including their new album Everything Under The Sun.
