Emmerdale fans have been left reeling after hearing the news that one major star has quit the soap for the second time.
Soap star Reece Dinsdale – best known for playing Paul Ashdale in the Dales – first left earlier this year when his character was killed off in an explosive van crash.
Paul, who had been secretly abusing his son Vinny for months, died when Jimmy King's van crashed into the barn where he was planning his wedding to Mandy Dingle.
As soon as actor Reece left, fans were thrilled to hear he wouldn't be going far from the crew, as he signed up as programme director and got to work behind the cameras.
But that all changed on Thursday night, as Reece announced it would be his last episode as director – at least "for now".
Taking to Twitter, the star wrote: "My final Emmerdale episode (for now) is the first up of tonight's two.
"Thanks to those of you who sent me messages and tweets saying how much you'd enjoyed them. It's a learning curve and I'm looking forward to doing more for your entertainment in 2022.
"Enjoy this evening's show x!"
Reece also shared a collection of behind-the-scenes snaps which showed the Woolpack's beer garden, the garage and the village square.
Fans immediately hopped onto social media to reply to Reece's post, with one emotionally penning: "Just love seeing your name and knowing who you are!"
"Your eps have been fab, Reece, and you deserve praise for the hard work you have to put in (alongside everyone else involved) to get the eps to our TV screens. I will certainly be watching!" someone else chimed in.
As another posted: "You always bring quality to the episodes Reece!"
And a fourth echoed: "Have really enjoyed them. I hope you get the opportunity to do more directing."
Of course, Emmerdale isn't the only soap Reece has made a name for himself in.
He initially starred as Tina's dad Joe McIntyre in Coronation Street from 2008 until 2010.
Joe began a secret romance with Gail Platt and eventually ended up attempting to fake his own death for an insurance payout – but was later confirmed dead after his body was found floating in a lake.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
