Jimmy (played by Nick Miles) went to court during the latest instalment of Emmerdale for the charges put against him following the death of Paul Ashdale (Reece Dinsdale). It was the lorry the former was driving crashing into the wedding barn that led to the explosion which caused the ITV soap villain’s demise and ever since, he has struck up a friendship with the deceased’s ex-fiancée, Mandy (Lisa Riley). With his own marriage on the line, it seems the last remaining King brother is starting to develop feelings for his neighbour but will they have to leave the village if an affair ensues?
Tuesday night’s episode began with Jimmy being accompanied by his lawyer, Ethan Anderson (Emile John), to attend court where he would make a guilty or not guilty plea.
The father-of-two managed to catch Mandy as he was getting into the car and she said looking at him in his suit: “Look at you.
“Very smart. I just hope you listen to what I said earlier,” she continued, with Jimmy saying she had given him “a lot to think about”.
“Did you speak to Nicola?” the Dingle clan member asked and when he said he hadn’t, Mandy added: “It’s not too late to go and get her.
“If she really wanted to come, she would be here, wouldn’t she,” Jimmy said as his neighbour made some excuses to get out of work so she could go to court with him.
After she put the phone down, Jimmy asked: “Are you [coming with me?]” to which Mandy replied: “It’s Dingle code.
“No one rides solo. It will make a change me being in the gallery, won’t it?” she joked as Jimmy looked happy to see her tagging along.
Towards the end of the episode, the father-of-two returned home and had another row with Nicola as she said her husband should’ve told her he was in court.
The beloved villager dropped a bombshell as he explained to his wife he had pleaded not guilty and the case was going to trial.
Nicola was elated with the news as she previously urged her other half not to plead guilty to something that wasn’t his fault.
Mean a lot more to me than friends
In the closing scenes of the latest instalment, Jimmy was seen back with Mandy as he dropped into the salon to speak with her.
He seemed hesitant to talk at first as he told his friend: “You know what? Forget it. I’ve no idea why I’ve come.”
As Mandy tried to break the ice by making a joke, the father-of-two replied: “I think I will leave the manscaping for another time.
“I’ve been through enough pain for one day,” he added with Mandy asking him if he was “sure he was alright”.
“Yes, no, I don’t know. I just need someone I can talk to,” he explained and it wasn’t long before the pair were chatting away.
“Tough day, hey?” Mandy asked, with Jimmy replying: “I shouldn’t be putting all this on you but standing there in that dock, hearing them read out the charges, it brought it all home.
“I have never felt this scared before,” he added as he began to cry with his friend telling him: “It’s alright.
“You can get upset with me. I’m not going to tell anybody,” she said as Jimmy tried to regain his composure.
As Mandy tried to lift the mood by joking about giving her neighbour a “deep tissue massage” he thanked her for supporting him.
Getting up to leave, the salon owner asked what exactly it was she had helped her friend with to receive such gratitude.
“For putting a rocket up my backside this morning and for coming with me. I don’t think I would have got through the day without you,” Jimmy declared.
“Well, that’s what friends are for,” Mandy replied, with Nicola’s husband telling her: “You mean a lot more to me than that.
“I’m serious, you do. I shouldn’t have said that, I’m out of order and I shouldn’t be here,” he added before running out of the salon.
Mandy looked shocked to hear her friend’s confession as he stood outside wondering if he had just made a bad decision.
However, in the coming days, the Dingle family member could tell her neighbour she has developed feelings for him.
As the pair begin to spend more time together, they could find it harder to keep their hands off each other and begin a steamy affair.
Unfortunately, this would mean heartbreak for Nicola as she will be left in the dark about her husband cheating on her.
When she does find out about the dalliance, she could give Jimmy an ultimatum that involves leaving the village or never seeing his children again.
With his hand forced, the father-of-two could end up leaving with his mistress as they begin a new life together away from the Dales.
However, will Mandy be convinced to make an exit or will she find it harder to leave her family behind?
Emmerdale continues Wednesday at 7pm on ITV.
