Emmerdale to air Boxing Day flashback episode with new actor playing young Cain

It's been confirmed that our big Boxing Day visit to Emmerdale will be a flashback special charting the history between now-estranged brothers Cain and Caleb Dingle.

On Monday 26th December, soap lovers are to be swept off to 1991, with actors Aiden Kane and Riccardo Drayton stepping in as the younger versions of these characters.

In behind-the-scenes photos, Aiden and Riccardo got the opportunity to catch up with original Cain and Caleb stars Jeff Hordley and Will Ash during rehearsals, with Maddy Barker coming in as the young Chas Dingle for a few scenes too – usually played by Lucy Pargeter.

In separate Emmerdale news, Mandy Dingle favourite Lisa Riley recently told Inside Soap that she's primed for an "enormous" storyline in 2023, revolving around a delicious reunion between her character and Dominic Brunt's distraught Paddy Kirk – they were previously married – whose wife has spent a great portion of this year sneakily shacking up with the late Al Chapman.

"The whole nation wants to see Mandy and Paddy together," said the actress, 46. "But it's soap, as you know, and we will keep this carrot dangling for a long time.

"What I can tell you is I have an enormous storyline coming which starts in February – you can't see my dining room table for scripts right now. I'd even go as far as to say that it's probably my favourite storyline since I've come back to Emmerdale. It's going to be incredible."

Teasing further details earlier this month, Emmerdale executive producer Jane Hudson made reference to explosive weddings, heartbreak and new B&B owners.

Speaking to the media, including OK!, she revealed that the Dingle clan will be the main focus in the New Year, adding: "The Dingles are really kicking off 2023 with a bang. It's all going on for them!

"We're continuing our story with Paddy and Chas and how you navigate trying to be the best parents you can when your marriage has fallen to pieces and one of you has had an affair. We'll watch them both go on their journeys, and it will be very serious and quite heartbreaking as we watch what happens to what were one of our favourite couples until we tore them apart…"
