Manpreet (played by Rebecca Sarker) hasn’t had the easiest of times on Emmerdale recently, having split up from her husband Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) for good. Charles (Kevin Mathurin) has been out through the mill as well, having come face to face with the mother of his children and realising he has a daughter he didn’t even know existed. Therefore, getting stuck in with the survival week challenges could prove to be the perfect distraction but ITV soap villain Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) has murder on the brain and it seems anyone could be her next victim. However, it seems the actress who plays Manpreet, Rebecca, could have let slip the fate of her alter-ego.
In scenes airing this week, Manpreet and Charles will join David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) and Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) in the water rafting activity.
As the participants enjoy the start of the adventure, it soon becomes clear they’re not as safe as they had first thought.
As the rafts sail quicker and quicker down the rapids, all the villagers will end up in the water which is swirling at an alarming rate.
It is yet to be disclosed if all four of them will make it out alive or if someone will succumb to their injuries.
Bosses are keeping the death a secret until transmission but when speaking with Express.co.uk and other press, Rebecca started to hint towards her character’s future.
The actress was asked about whether Manpreet and Charles would ever confess their feelings to one another, to which she replied: “I think nothing brings home one’s own mortality or fragility of life than a brush with the Grim Reaper.
“There’s always been and there still is this real chemistry between Charles and Manpreet no matter how much they try and fight it.
“Assuming Manpreet and Charles make it out alive, will this intense experience bring them together or will it rock them so much it drives a wedge in their relationship?
“Might it be a question of what happens or what is said in the rapids stays in the rapids, a bit like Fight Club?” she continued.
Although Rebecca did not explicitly state the characters would survive she certainly hinted to them exploring their feelings for one another past stunt week.
A brush with the Grim Reaper
Stating her character also has a “brush” with death signifies it is likely Manpreet will survive and live to see another day.
However, the rapids won’t be the only event in which Manpreet has to do the dance of death with the Grim Reaper.
In another activity, her sister Meena messes with Victoria’s harness as she overheard her and David confessing their love for each other.
Unfortunately, Manpreet ends up picking up the harness intended for Victoria and it’s down to Meena to decide whether to say anything.
The actress who plays the villain, Paige, hinted her character’s sister won’t die as this would the last thing Meena would want.
Speaking with Express.co.uk and other publications, Paige explained: “To Meena, Manpreet is the most important person in her life.
“There’s no one more important than Manpreet. But if she does say something, then she’s going to get in serious amounts of trouble and Meena always chooses herself above everyone else.
“She’s freaking out, she’s worried but there’s also this thrill of, ‘If she did go ‘splat’, what would that look like?
“I’ve never seen something like that. That would be so cool to watch’. So it’s that juxtaposition of all those things.”
If Manpreet lives to tell the tale, she will certainly come out of survival week not wanting to get involved in any more drama anytime soon.
Charles on the other hand does end up getting injured as his body thrashes through the rapids, with the actor who plays him, Kevin, explaining all.
The soap star said: “The water stunts were amazing to do. We had to do it numerous times for technical reasons and camera angles.
“And it was fun and thrilling. It was an amazing experience and to be able to do that and when we were told that we were doing it, everyone was so pumped up anyway.”
The actor also detailed how although stunt doubles were on hand to jump in, the soap stars did find themselves in the water a lot of the time.
However, if Manpreet and Charles do bypass getting killed off, who in the village will be bidding farewell?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode airing at 8pm on Thursdays.
