Kerry Wyatt (played by Laura Norton) will be returning to Emmerdale next week, having vanished from our screens without an exit story last June. In reality, Laura gave birth during the height of the pandemic and took maternity leave. Ahead of her explosive return to the ITV soap, Laura has revealed there’s been a major change to Kerry.

Emmerdale’s Kerry is an outspoken Geordie known for her outrageous outfits, snappy comebacks and big heart.

After being absent from the soap for more than a year, actress Laura has opened up about Kerry’s comeback and how her character has evolved since leaving the village.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other publications about Kerry’s return, Laura revealed: “It’s random and it’s really different. “I don’t know what I was expecting.

“I love the fact that it is [going] down a different avenue and it’s dark – and again you are going to see another side [of her].”

She has returned to Emmerdale as a cleaner for a family in a multimillion-pound mansion owned by soap newcomer Chloe Harris’ (Jessie Ellands) father.

Laura explained: “She forms a bond with her employer’s daughter but, while the daughter, Chloe, is lovely, she realises that the father is dodgy.

“It’s really dark stuff and she starts to try to come up with ways to get away. There are a few interwoven storylines.”

Kerry is frightened of Chloe’s father, who has yet to be cast, and she’s trying her best to stay out of his way or cause any problems in his house filled with CCTV cameras.

Laura explained: “It’s just a professional relationship, and he is very very scary. Kerry has been made aware, and obviously, she has gotten very close to his daughter Chloe.

“But she has been privy to conversations and knows exactly what he’s been involved in and even for Kerry, it’s been incredibly dark and something that she doesn’t want any part of.

“It’s scary stuff, really dark stuff and things that you wouldn’t want to be a part of.”

She explained Chloe’s father has access to everything as he has CCTV “in every room in the house” so she has to be “incredibly careful” at all times.

“Kerry is worried this man will follow her back to the village,” Laura explained.

Kerry has a history of getting embroiled in dramas, but will the new and improved version of herself manage to stay out of trouble this time around?

Could the character finally have put her past behind her or will a dark turn of events in her storyline land her in a difficult situation?

Kerry left the village after Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) finally found out the truth about the Sharma sweet factory fire which ultimately killed her father, Frank Clayton (Michael Praed) .

Laura explained: “We took ourselves off to disappear for a while because of everything that happened with Frank.

“She was trying to work out what the best thing to do was and maybe needed a bit of counselling.

“She needed to remove herself for a while as she wasn’t very pleasant.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
