Bargain Hunt returns to BBC One after the festive period and this time, Eric Knowles presents the show from Heanor in Derbyshire. During the episode, he is shown the techniques used for restoring antique violins. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about his family.

Who is Eric Knowles’ wife?

Eric Knowles is a 68-year-old TV presenter and antiques expert who specialises in ceramics and glass.

He started work at the London auction house Bonhams auctioneers as a porter in the ceramics department in 1976, and five years later became the head of department.

The expert is married to Anita Knowles, who is apparently his only life partner.

The couple have been married for more than 30 years but it is not known when they officially tied the knot.

They used to live together in Buckinghamshire with their two sons, Sebastian and Oliver.

Anita is in her mid-60s and there is an age gap of about four years between herself and her husband.

Eric’s wife is also his business partner as she worked as company secretary for Eric Knowles Antiquarian Services Limited.

He was well-established in the antiques business before he met his wife, having first joined Antiques Roadshow in 1981.

She has been fully supportive of all of his ventures, including his role as one of the regular Bargain Hunt presenters.

What happened to Eric Knowles’ son?

The couple’s eldest son, Sebastian, died in a road accident in May 2015.

The professional DJ, based in High Wycombe, died following a crash on the M40.

He had been working as a DJ since the age of 14 and played gigs under the stage name Sparky B.

The young star was 26 when he died, and he was remembered by plenty of big names in the industry, whom he worked with.

Not much is known about Eric’s youngest son, Oliver.

Eric said he could have followed in his eldest son’s footsteps when he explained what his alternative career would be.

The presenter said he would have loved to have become a radio DJ.

He shared: “Had I not followed a career in antiques I might have taken two different routes one being in the big outdoors and the Forestry Commission or the indoor studio working in Radio as a DJ.”

The star mentioned his wife when he spoke of what he enjoyed doing in his free time.

He commented: “My wife would argue that there is never such a thing as free time but I do enjoy getting stuck into our garden.

“In truth I am more of a vegetation controller than a gardener who is always in more need of a machete than a pair of secateurs.”

The presenter also admitted to enjoying a beach holiday with the family when speaking of his guilty pleasure.

He said: “My biggest guilty pleasure is walking along the edge of a beach preferably in Barbados.”

Bargain Hunt airs on weekdays at 12.15pm on BBC One.
