There are always new and exciting films coming out, whether it is on streaming platforms or on the big screen. Coronavirus briefly put a stop to that, so now many studios are making up for lost time and ensuring film fans get their fill of new movies. Express.co.uk breaks down all the new releases on the big screen this week

A Quiet Place Part II

This horror movie is hotly anticipated, with fans begging director John Krasinski to make the film.

Emily Blunt stars as a mother of three who is navigating through a world where dangerous beasts hunt and destroy, but are blind and can only find their prey through sound.

The official synopsis reads: “Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence.

“Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.”

The film this time also features Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou in the main cast.

As well as this, as was likely requested from fans, director John Krasinski returns to the film in flashback, meaning fans will remember the family as in the first film.

Land

Robin Wright stars in her directorial debut, which follows a woman as she confronts her life in a new and surprising way.

The official synopsis reads: “From acclaimed actress Robin Wright comes her directorial debut Land, the poignant story of one woman’s search for meaning in the vast and harsh American wilderness.

“Edee, in the aftermath of an unfathomable event, finds herself unable to stay connected to the world she once knew and in the face of that uncertainty, retreats to the magnificent, but unforgiving, wilds of the Rockies.

“After a local hunter brings her back from the brink of death, she must find a way to live again.”

After Love

The official synopsis reads: “After Love tells the story of Mary Hussain (Joanna Scanlan), who converted to Islam when she married and now is in her early 60s, living quietly in Dover with her husband Ahmed.

“Following his unexpected death, she discovers that Ahmed had a secret life just twenty-one miles away, across the Channel in Calais.

“The shocking discovery compels her to go there to find out more, and as she grapples with her shattered sense of identity, her search for understanding has surprising consequences.”

Dream Horse

This feel-good movie stars Toni Collette in the main role, with supporting turns from Damian Lewis, Owen Teale, Joanna Page, Karl Johnson, Nicholas Farrell and Siân Phillips.

The official synopsis reads: “Jan Vokes, a cleaner and bartender, recruits her initially reluctant husband Brian and local accountant Howard Davies to help her bring together a syndicate of local people to breed a foal – which they name Dream Alliance.

“On the racetrack, he proves himself to be more than a match for the multi-million-pound racehorses he comes up against – a true working-class champion, taking on the establishment at their own game.

“But much more than this, Dream begins to alter the lives of everyone in the syndicate, not least Jan’s.

“He is everything to her: friend, confidant and an escape from a life of always putting other people’s needs first.”
