Harry Potter cast to reunite for 20th anniversary special without JK Rowling

Several members of the cast of the first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone, are set to reunite to mark the movie’s 20th anniversary.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are included in the line-up, and will be seen together for the first time in over a decade.

The wizarding trio were last spotted together at the Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere in July 2011.

To mark the milestone, HBO Max are hosting a reunion called Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which will be aired on New Year’s Day.

Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Felton, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Jason Isaacs and Bonnie Wright are also set to take part – but the series' author JK Rowling hasn't been mentioned.

Teasing the reunion special on Instagram, HBO Max shared a video along with the caption: “They’re back… Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are giving us the best start to the new year we could wish for.

"See them reunite on 1st January 2022 for a very special show, celebrating the first film’s 20th anniversary. Also look out for some other familiar faces getting involved.”

The upcoming special promises to go behind-the-scenes of the films, as well as in-depth interviews, never-before-seen clips, special guests and “a few extra exciting surprises” along the way.

The special will be filmed at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.

Emma shared a sweet throwback snap with her with her Harry Potter co-stars Daniel and Rupert on Tuesday 16 October, alongside a lengthy post where she gushed over the franchise.

She wrote: “Harry Potter was my home, my family, my world and Hermione (still is) my favorite fictional character of all time. I think a journalist once said it was irritating how many times during an interview I mentioned how lucky I was and started counting… BUT I DAMN WELL KNEW!!! And still know.

"I am proud not just of what we as group contributed as actors to the franchise but also as the children that became young adults that walked that path. I look at my fellow cast members now and I am just so proud of who everyone has become as people.

"I am proud we were kind to each other that we supported one another and that we held up something meaningful.”

“Thank you to the fans that have continued to show their support well after the last chapter closed. The magic of the world wouldn’t exist without you. Thank you for fighting to make it such an inclusive and loving place,” Emma continued.

“I still miss the crew who made these films all the time. Thank you for all of your hard work too – I know your contributions sometimes get overlooked.”

Emma proceeded to inform her 61.5 million followers on the reunion that will air in the New Year.
