Holly Willoughby was welling up today when she and Phillip Schofield spoke to an ICU doctor who has been working on the coronavirus frontline. Dr Hugh explained why he wasn’t going to be watching a documentary about the NHS’ work over the past year because it was too close to home having lost his own son, at 17-years-old just last year.

Taking to Twitter to comment, This Morning viewers shared the love.

“Hugh losing his 17 year old son yet continuing to work through it and save others, massive respect to him i know I’d be a wreck #thismorning,” one said.

A second added: “@thismorning In tears watching this. I hope the professor heals soon I hope they both get the support they deserve.”

“That was one of the most heartbreaking moments I’ve ever seen on TV, that poor man. 🙁 #thismorning

Someone else wrote: “Hugh story just made me cry.  That poor man has been through so much.  Sending condolences and thanks for all he has done #supportthenhs #thismorning #hugh.”
