Line of Duty season six is airing on BBC One on Sundays, and this season focuses on a new murder investigation. Gail Vella (played by Andi Osho) was introduced in the first episode as an esteemed journalist who was killed. But former Line of Duty star Craig Parkinson has suggested she could still be alive.
Is Gail Vella still alive in Line of Duty?
Fans are using their detective brains once again to try and make sense of the corruption.
The sixth season introduced a new murder victim, with Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) working on the case.
She had seemingly left AC-12 to work under newcomer DCI Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald).
Actor Parkinson spoke on the BBC Sounds podcast Obsessed with Line of Duty about his revelation.
He believed Vella was still alive, which is why Davidson has been keeping her flat under high security.
He said: “Somebody is in that flat and there’s some connection with Gail Vella, the investigative journalist.
“You don’t cast someone like Andi Osho and then just have her as little magazine prints and stick them up on a kitchen wall.”
The star went on to say how she was too much of a great actress to only appear in newspaper cuttings.
The podcast guest, Sarah Millican, agreed the creators could have used anybody to appear in photos.
Millican went on to suggest Vella may have been a former lover of Davidson’s.
Fans learned that she had been in a relationship with Farida Jatri (Anneika Rose) and she has since shown an interest in Kate.
There is a chance she could have a romantic connection with the investigative journalist.
Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss the idea, with one saying: “Is it possible that Jo and Gail were together before she was killed?
“I think quite a bit of time has passed since the murder so Jo could have moved on to Farida in the meantime.
“Craig Parkinson (Dot) thought that the locks on Jo’s door meant she was keeping someone IN rather than out, which I thought was really interesting.”

Line of Duty season 6: Will any members of AC-12 die? [INTERVIEW]
Is Kate Fleming having an affair with DCI Jo Davidson? [THEORY]
Another fan added: “I feel like if they were together before Gail died then finding out would be really easy & they would’ve found out sometime in the last year.
“Jo isn’t forensic & controlling enough to have like wiped all of Gail’s phones etc.
“Also I think the stare down with the photo of Young Jo & her Mum…people are way overthinking it. Imo.
“Probably Christian/Catholic mum & her family excised her when she came out as a lesbian. Like, she loves her mum but *she’s* the reason why she “has no family”.” [Sic]
One fan created a timeline of events from the day Gail Vella was murdered.
The murder took place on September 10, 2019, and was reported as a likely contract killing five days later.
On September 23, the victim was believed to have been stalked. The conference led by Davidson happened a year later.
The newspaper reports also reveal how the original DCI on the investigation was Billy McTulloch.
The fan said: “So, where does that leave us? This investigation is over 1 year old. No arrests
“The seeds of framing a stalker were planted right near the beginning. Why activate the plan now? Who is DCI Billy McTulloch? Did he brief the stalker theory? Why is Gail’s car so prominent?” [Sic]
