Lizzie McGuire returns: Hilary Duff spotted filming new Disney+ series in NYC

Disney is set to reboot one of its most adored TV hews form the early noughties, Lizzie McGuire.

The American teen sitcom, created by Terri Minsky, followed the adventures of Lizzie, portrayed by Hilary Duff, and her friends Miranda and Gordo and their pursuit for popularity at school.

Despite only being on the air for three years between 2001 and 2004, the TV show gained a cult following, with its fans absolutely delighted by its highly anticipated return.

Filming has already begun for the new Disney+ show with Hillary Duff, 32, having been spotted filming in New York City.

The reboot follows the life of a 30-year-old Lizzie in NYC, and one of the press images from the first filming days shows the character carrying a stuffed alpaca around Manhattan.

Hillary showed off Lizzie’s first outfit while filming, showing a stylish yellow coat and two piece yellow and black checked skirt suit and black boots, in an Instagram post.

Previously, Duff revealed Lizzie would be working as an apprentice to an interior designer and has a fiancé who is a chef at a restaurant in Soho.

In an interview with Good Morning America the star also said she would be living in Brooklyn and is set to celebrate her 30th birthday with friends.

However, while it seems like Lizzie has her life together and everything is going her way, there is set to be a twist at the end of the episode which is set to change things.

It has also been confirmed that the full McGuire clan will return in the series which will see Jake Thomas, Hallie Todd and Robert Carradine reprising their roles as Matt, Jo and Sam, respectively.

“Just like there is no Lizzie McGuire without Hilary Duff, there is no McGuire family without Hallie, Robert, and Jake,” Disney Channels Worldwide’s president and chief creative officer, Gary Marsh said in a statement.

“The original series holds a special place in the hearts of so many, and we can’t wait to introduce fans, both old and new, to an older, wiser, yet still perfectly imperfect Lizzie.”

While these characters have been confirmed to return there is no word on where Lizzie’s best friends Gordo and Miranda, portrayed by Adam Lamberg and Lalaine, will feature in the reboot.

An animated version of Lizzie’s alter ego is also set to appear throughout the series, as the character navigates adult life.
