Loose Women 's Nadia Sawalha was left "heartbroken" and "in pieces" after her elderly parents moved abroad for a new life.
The 57 year old former actress spoke to her fellow Loose Women panelists, Kaye Adams, Frankie Bridge and Jane Moore, about her parents' decision to move back to her father Nadim's native Jordan.
She explained that the decision made by Nadim, 89, and her mother Roberta, known as Betty, 87, was due to the fact that the U.K is not 'a great place' to live as an elderly person.
Nadia described her emotions as she dropped them off at the airport, admitting she was "heartbroken", after living next door to them for years, however she also expressed that she was excited for them to start their new lives.
She said: "My parents have gone on an adventure, as my dad says.
"Pretty heartbreaking for us left here because, as you know, I've lived next door to my parents for decades… and my dad is 89, as you know, he's had quite a few things going on with his health.
"Its been really hard and sometimes we've had to go to hospital and, you know, you've been waiting 12 hours in hospital and all this sort of stuff, and the pandemic…
"Anyway, my dad has decided to go home to Jordan. We took them to the airport.
"we've been kind of preparing for it… of course, I went to pieces. I checked them all in and everything and I turned round and they were both sat in their wheelchairs.
"I gave them a hug and I'd just started crying and I could see people looking at me, so I just sort of turned away to my daughter for a second, turned back and they'd gone!" as she dissolved into incredulous laughter."
She then revealed that her dad is doing just fine, as he sent her a picture of himself sitting out in the sun with his brother, Nadia's uncle.
The star lamented that she "already misses them desperately", but said that "if you love someone, you've got to let them go".
Nadia also pondered that the UK might not necessarily be one of the best places to live if you're elderly, citing the long waiting times for healthcare appointments as one of the reasons for her parents' move.
She is known to share a close bond with her parents, and, in a post on Instagram during the pandemic, she said: "Not ‘elderly' not ‘vulnerable’ not ‘a burden' not ‘a drain on the system’".
Paying tribute to her parents, she ended her post writing: "I love you both so much. Funny, wise and infuriating!! Just as it should be !!"
