Former glamour model Shannon, 22 — singled out by bosses as the face of the series — had been dating DJ Ben Sterling since last year.

But The Sun on Sunday can reveal she coldly dumped the music producer after making it to the final stages of the ITV2 series’ casting.

Fellow contestant, hunky PE teacher Hugo, has also been accused of ditching two women to clear his path to the famous villa.

The 24-year-old — who claims he is a “relationship type of guy” — abruptly ended his relationship with long-term girlfriend Millie Simmons, 22, earlier this year.

And he also cut contact with Kathryn Burrows, 21, who he exchanged flirty texts with after ending his relationship with pretty Millie.

Fans can’t wait to see the latest stunning hopefuls who are launching their bid to find true love on the show. But today’s revelations expose the pair of wannabes who have left a string of broken hearts in their wake before the first show has even been screened.

And sources close to Shannon’s ex last night laid into her for dumping their friend.

One told The Sun on Sunday: “Shannon and Ben were so close. They got on really well and had such a lot in common. They both love music and partying.

“They went travelling earlier this year with a group of friends and had the time of their lives.

“Ben celebrated his 22nd birthday in February while they were in Mexico and Shannon really spoiled him. They had a big celebration dinner with pals.

“They both said they loved each other, so it was a real shock when she called time on their relationship out of the blue.

“She obviously felt Love Island was too big an opportunity to miss out on because she was already dating someone — even someone she seemed to really like. She’s clearly not averse to leaving broken hearts behind her.”

Scot Shannon and Ben spent three months travelling together.

It is understood he was granted special permission during the pandemic to fly abroad for a series of DJ performances.

Video footage posted on social media of his birthday celebrations shows him being given a cake, as Shannon is heard shouting, “I love you, boo” in the background.

A month later the model, who now describes herself as an “influencer”, admitted in an interview she was dating “a handsome DJ” named Ben. But soon after, sources told how she broke the news to Ben that their romance was over.

They added: “Friends thought Ben and Shannon had already found love — but obviously not, if she was prepared to dump him like that.”

Shannon, from Glenrothes, Fife, was last week seen opening a new TV trailer for the series, which sees her strutting in gold lingerie and heels before posing for a raunchy photo shoot.

Hugo, from Hampshire, who was born with a foot disability, is the first physically disabled contestant to appear on the show. He played cricket for England PD (Physical Disability).

In interviews ahead of the launch, he claimed he had been single for “a while”, adding: “With the current climate, it’s been really hard to get back into dating.”

But we can reveal he was still in a relationship with Millie in November, when the pair celebrated their two-year anniversary.

Marking the occasion, Millie posted loved-up shots of the pair, writing: “2 years of putting up with you! Yay lucky me, I love you, happy anniversary.”

And having ended his relationship with Millie, he began sharing the texts with Kathryn.

Ministry of fun

CIVIL servant Sharon Gaffka gushed about working for former Tory Cabinet minister David Gauke, describing him as “really funny”.

The beauty queen, 25, who was at the Department for Transport, is planning to return to her job despite being open to having sex on telly.

Sharon, from Oxford, who has left her role as an operations manager to sign up for the series, said: “My favourite minister I’ve worked for was David Gauke. He is very nice and really funny in general.

“Over the years I’ve worked with a few politicians and Secretaries of State – it’s fun to see the real person behind the TV screens.”

Sharon insists she won’t discuss her government role on screen and added: “My intention post-Love Island is to return to my profession.

“We have a civil service code of conduct and I’m there to find love and I’m not there to talk about my job. It’s hard to say whether or not I’ll be having sex in the villa.

"Once you’re in there and you meet the right person, you forget cameras are there. You don’t know what will happen in the heat of the moment.”

After he was unveiled as a Love Island hopeful last week, Kathryn’s friend posted on Instagram: “Oh, so this is why he stopped texting you then,” to which she responded: “RIP.”

A source said: “Hugo was in contact with both Kathryn and Millie right up until he got the call-up for Love Island at the last minute. He and Millie had ended their relationship, but she was hopeful they would get back together, because they were still talking.

“Meanwhile, he was very interested in Kathryn and had been texting her. Hugo knows he’s a good-looking lad and he plays to his sensitive side when it comes to attracting women. He loves being the centre of attention.”

A source close to Hugo said: “Millie and Hugo decided to mutually split before the show started.”

Earlier this week Hugo was caught boasting about his sexual prowess in a video from his university days, bragging: “I’m a sh****r, a fine s*****r. I’m a sh****r, my friends.”

Hugo knows he’s a good-looking lad and he plays to his sensitive side when it comes to attracting women.

The revelation about Shannon dumping her boyfriend comes as footage emerged of her in steamy scenes published on a sleazy website. Under her alias, Alexa Campbell, she posed topless in a kitchen as a cameraman filmed her.

In the casting interview clip, with which she has hopes of attracting a “sugar daddy” who would shower her with expensive gifts, Shannon said she wanted “good food”, “nice holidays” and “nice clothes” from her potential sponsor, before stripping out of a figure-hugging jumpsuit.

In the video, Shannon says she plans to become a “successful model”. She told potential sponsors: “I’m looking for someone to spend money on me.”

She said: “I want good food, I want nice holidays, I want nice clothes. It’s only a small price to pay for me.”

The performance finishes with someone behind the camera telling her that their “clientele” will “absolutely love you”.

‘Bigger boobs’

BUBBLY estate agent Faye Winter splurges her entire salary on looking good – including having a boob job and lip fillers.

The Love Island hopeful, 26, from Devon, said: “I spend all my wages on my hair and beauty.

“I’m not a virgin to the needle. I’m happy with the work I’ve had done. I think you should get work done if it makes you feel confident. My boobs are big but don’t give me backache, luckily. I decided to go larger.”

Faye, one of the 11 beautiful women and buff blokes who will enter the Majorcan villa tomorrow in search of love, added: “I’m happy in a bikini and I’m fine with sharing a bed – I’ve slept in a bed with many friends.

“I’m sure my parents are aware that I’ve had sex, but it’s not part of Sunday dinner chat.

“My family will support me in whatever I do, so I feel it’s right to have sex. They won’t judge me.”

Her employer – estate agency East of Exe – has been supportive of her decision to go on the show.

She added: “Only a couple of my work colleagues knew and they were all happy for me. I’m very lucky.”

Shannon has been open about her glamour-modelling past but insisted she would not do porn. And with TV stardom looming, mum Yvonne is “over the moon” her daughter will be on the show — and said it was an opportunity for viewers to see the real Shannon.

She added: “I just can’t wait for her to get off and people to see her actual personality. It’s fine, it’s OK. She owns it. She’s not shy. It’s great that people are interested in her.”

  • Love Island starts at 9pm tomorrow on ITV2.

Ready for action

By Laura Armstrong

THE alarm has been sounded, the bikinis are on and this year’s cast of hair-flicking, muscle-flexing, soundbite-dropping wannabes are ready for action – and hopefully lots of it.

After last year’s show was ruled out by Covid restrictions, the latest series may just be the most feverishly anticipated yet.

And with more than 100,000 hopefuls to choose from, the casting team seem to have excelled themselves.

Ex-glamour model who “needs” sex eight times a day? Tick. The blonde PA who bragged about drunk-dialling her married boss? Tick.

The self-proclaimed “fine sh***er”? Tick. Love Island is now a huge money spinner for ITV, which has toned down the X-rated nature of the show to fit a wider audience and make it easier to sell abroad.

After all, we haven’t seen a couple romp on the show since 2018.

But it’s clear bosses haven’t lost sight of what made the show so popular in the first place.
