Marilyn Monroe was the blonde bombshell who every woman wanted to be and every man wanted to be with. She died young, having made an indelible mark on history with her work. Marilyn still had a prolific output despite her early demise – but how many movies did she make?

How many movies did Marilyn Monroe make?

Altogether, Marilyn appeared in 30 movies, however, her final film was left unfinished.

Her debut came in the 1947 movie Dangerous Years, where she played a waitress called Evie in one scene in a restaurant.

After this, her second role was in 1948’s Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay! which was also a bit part, and she acted alongside a young Natalie Wood.

However, her first main role came before too long, in the same year she starred in Ladies of the Chorus.

Despite her having had a major role in this movie, she was still relatively unknown, even until 1950s All About Eve, in which she acted opposite Bette Davis and Anne Baxter.

This led to more notable small roles, where her name or even her face would appear on the posters for the movies.

In 1952, Marilyn became better known and she started appearing in bigger films with larger roles, such as neo-noir thriller Don’t Bother to Knock.

Then, in 1953, she received her first top billing in the movie Niagara, which gave her icon status, after which she performed in some of her best-known movies, such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How to Marry a Millionaire, There’s No Business Like Show Business and The Seven Year Itch.

In the late 1950s, her output slowed somewhat, but in 1959 she appeared in Some Like It Hot, which was also a major film for her.

Her final film was The Misfits in 1961, written by her then-husband playwright Arthur Miller.

She was better known for her personal exploits, which helped thrust her into the fame game even further.

Marilyn was married three times but did not have any children.

Her first husband was James Dougherty, whom she married in 1942 aged just 16, in a bid to avoid returning to an orphanage, but they divorced before she made it big.

After gaining some attention as a model and actress, Marilyn married baseball player Joe DiMaggio in 1954 after dating for some time.

However, nine months later the pair announced their divorce, after which Marilyn became involved with Arthur.

The couple married in 1956, after Marilyn converted to Judaism, and remained together until their divorce in 1961, which was only a short while before her death from an overdose of barbiturates on August 4, 1962, aged 36.

Her final film Something’s Got to Give was unfinished and abandoned on her death and has never been completed.
