Michael Weatherly may now star in the legal drama Bull on CBS but before this, he was Agent Tony Dinozzo in NCIS. Fans of the long-running crime series have been crossing their fingers for years that he would reprise the role one day. Now, it does seem like there is a chance this could be happening after all.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from NCIS.
Has Tony Dinozzo star confirmed season 19 appearance?
NCIS fans were heartbroken when Tony Dinozzo (played by Michael Weatherly) left in season 13.
After hearing that Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) had been killed in Israel, he also discovered she had given birth to their daughter Tali, who he knew nothing about.
To try and give her the best life, Tony came to the decision that he needed to leave NCIS behind and start afresh with his daughter in Paris.
This was five years ago and since then, Weatherly has never said no to the possibility of making a comeback.
Despite the actor’s success on Bull, he hasn’t denied he could return someday to NCIS.
After leaving the show, Weatherly said he would “absolutely be open to anything and everything”, teasing a potential future appearance.
Then in 2018, he tweeted: “I will always be ready to play DiNozzo when the time is right.”
Now, the star has added even more fuel to the fire with a recent tweet.
Weatherly posted a picture of himself standing in front of a TV camera, wearing an NCIS jacket and hat.
The caption simply reads: “Camera is king #NCIS” and, as predicted, fans went wild.
One fan commented: “OMG! Is it true that you are coming back to NCIS? That’s the best news I’ve heard all week!”
Another said: “Time for Dinozzo to come back to NCIS? Ain’t the same”
Whereas a third added: “Grab your gear and dust off Very Special Agent Anthony Dinozzo’s badge. It’s time for Tony to come back for a visit.”

Now Weatherly hasn’t stated outright he will be in season 19 of NCIS.
Nevertheless, he has teased the chance he will do with this tweet and given he has never shut down the option of a comeback, there is a good chance.
His own series Legal was renewed for season six earlier this year by CBS which does mean he will be busy shooting.
Bull will be premiering its sixth series on Thursday, October 7.
But with NCIS’ Valencia Studios just a half-hour drive away from the CBS Studio Centre where Bull is filmed, he could have some time for a pit stop.
Another option is that Weatherly might be doing some work behind the camera.
Weatherly has experience of directing short films, as well as episodes of Bull and NCIS.
As the actor is referring to the camera in the cryptic tweet, perhaps he is making a comeback as a director.
Either way, fans are hoping they will soon get to see Dinozzo reunited with Agent Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the rest of the team.
NCIS season 19 will premiere on Monday, September 20, on CBS.
