Money Heist fans will remember how in season four, Denver (played by Jaime Lorente) and Stockholm’s (Esther Acebo) romance came into some troubles. As the action returned to the heist in the Bank of Spain, there was some tension between the pair as Stockholm grew increasingly close to Rio (Miguel Herrán) in the series. This left fans wondering whether there could be some more changes ahead for the couples of La Casa de Papel.

Will Stockholm leave Denver for Rio romance?

When the fourth season of Money Heist returned to Netflix, viewers may not have been expecting Denver and Stockholm’s relationship to take a turn for the worse.

However, tensions were high as the fourth outing began and there were some flashbacks to the pair arguing as they prepared for the heist.

In episode one, viewers watched how Stockholm stayed the night with Tokyo away from Denver.

Then later in the episode, Denver found out how Stockholm planned to meet Arturo Roman (Enrique Arce) to show him their son, which she kept as a secret from her partner.

After Denver beat up Arturo to within an inch of his life, Stockholm told him she couldn’t be with him anymore.

As the season went on, Stockholm then grew closer to Rio as she began to support him working through his trauma.

Denver was driven to jealousy over this, confronting Rio who denied any romance developing between them.

However, things became increasingly complicated for the heist gang as Gandia (Jose Manuel Poga) escaped and Nairobi (Alba Flores) was murdered.

This all meant that by the end of the fourth season, there was still some unsolved tension between the trio, which is likely to carry into part five.

The last viewers saw of the three was them all embracing in the final episode of season four.

Speaking ahead of the fourth season, actor Jaime Lorente revealed a bit more about their relationship.

Speaking to Identity Magazine, he said of season four: “As for Denver, saving his relationship [with Monica] takes a big chunk of his thoughts throughout this specific season.

“Especially whether or not the relationship is going to survive whatever this crucial heist brings this time.”

There definitely seems like there will be some difficulties in the Denver and Monica relationship going forward but fans will just have to wait and see what happens in season five.

Although some viewers have begun speculating what might be next for the couple in La Casa de Papel.

User athena_lcdp wrote on Reddit: “I think their relationship will be further explored next season.

“I think the hug they shared was more of a mutual understanding of each other’s feelings, and more to show us Denver understands Rio was going through something and Stockholm was only helping him.”

Fan Pankh_ added: “I am really hoping for them to get back together. Fingers crossed.”

While a third named tommyhoward2001 wrote: “Personally I think they’ve just had an argument and they’ll make up in s5, they’re my favourite couple in this.”

Although, it is clear a lot of love still exists between the pair, as was revealed in Lorente’s interview with Identity Magazine.

He added: “Monica definitely had a big impact on Denver’s character because the relationship they have is very different.

“Monica is his partner, but she also acts like his mom.

“She taught him how to be more respectful. So she surely made him a better man.”

How their relationship plays out in season five will be revealed when the show finally returns to Netflix.

Money Heist seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix now.
