“I needed therapy to get through this dark period.

“My wife said to me: ‘You’re not in a good place, you require professional help’.”

The challenge began when Alan tried to juggle long hours on Ramsay Street with maintaining his passion project – a photography business.

      Why has Neighbours been cancelled?

Neighbours has basically been cancelled because Channel 5 pulled out of broadcasting the soap.

In a statement on Twitter, the show's producers said financial issues stemming from "the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK" Channel 5) in early 2022 contributed to the show's end.

Channel 5 announced in February 2022 it would be dropping Neighbours from its line-up, with the show's producers Fremantle Media unable to secure a replacement broadcaster.

It is understood the UK network contributed towards the majority of the show's production costs.

Neighbours’ Toadfish star Ryan Moloney reveals surprising career change

NEIGHBOURS legend Ryan Moloney has revealed his surprising new career as the soap is axed after 37 years.

The 42-year-old actor, who has played Toadie Rebecchi since 1993, said he is doing a civil construction course.

"I'm not ruling anything out. I'm doing a civil construction course which is about driving excavators and building roads," Ryan told The Daily Telegraph

"I like playing with those kinds of machines. I like doing earthworks, all that kind of manual labour stuff. That's where I'm at, but who knows where it's all going to end up."

Back in 2017, Ryan also revealed he trained as a pilot when he thought the Australian show was up for the chop.

Weighing up his options, Ryan said he "might go back to flying when the time's right".

      Sex and disability discrimination

Some Neighbours actors have even taken their complaints against the show to court.

Kym Valentine, who played Libby Kennedy for 15 years, sued producers in 2013 claiming sex and disability discrimination.

In 2013, she demanded compensation for the "pain, hurt, suffering and humiliation" she suffered while battling a period of ill health beginning in the 2000s.

Valentine was diagnosed with pneumonia in 2008 and then suffered a collapsed lung on a flight from the US to Australia.

She also demanded that she be reinstated on Neighbours after she took a period of indefinite leave in 2011.

Valentine settled the case and returned to the soap for a three-week stint in 2014.

        Neighbours race row

Last year, several cast members came forward to share stories of racism they claim to have experienced while making the show.

Indigenous actor Shareena Clanton said she suffered "multiple racist traumas" while filming a six-week stint on the programme in January and February 2021.

"It's been lonely, triggering and traumatising to work in such a culturally unsafe space," the 30-year-old actor wrote in an Instagram post, adding that she wouldn't work on Neighbours again.

Following her allegations, other stars came forward with more accusations of discrimination.

Indian-Australian actor Sharon Johal, who played Dipi Rebecchi since 2017, told her social media followers she suffered "direct, indirect and casual racism" in the workplace.

Fremantle Media, the company which makes the soap, issued a statement in response to stars' accusations of racism, saying it took all allegations of discrimination seriously and would be launching an independent review into alleged systemic racism on the Neighbours set.

However, earlier this year, Australia's The Herald Sun reported that the results of the review would not be made public after concluding in December 2021.

Who did Delta Goodrem play in the soap?

Delta played the role of Nina Tucker in the Aussie soap.

In 2001, she was approached by producers after they saw her video for her debut single.

The 37-year-old almost turned down the role of Nina as she felt the character did not suit her style of music.

However, the role was rewritten for her and she joined the cast and made her first on-screen appearance on June 22, 2002.

A year later she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and had to leave the show for treatment.

But once her health improved she managed to make a return to the show in 2004 to tie up Nina's storylines up until 2005.

She later reprised her role in 2015, as part of the show’s 30th anniversary.
