Friends fans can rest easy, Netflix is paying up to keep the sitcom for another year.
Earlier this week, Friends fans in the US spotted the expiry date had appeared on the show’s page saying it would leave the streaming site on January 1, 2019.
Netflix had been paying WarnerMedia $30million (£23m) a year since 2015 for the license to the show, but the price had increased to $100million (£78m) from 2019, according to the New York Times.
In panic, fans threatened to leave Netflix and cancel their subscriptions if they didn’t get their fix of Ross, Rachel, Joey, Monica, Chandler and Phoebe.
Taking to Twitter fans shared their despair and rage, prompting Netflix to quickly jump in and reassure fans Friends would be staying put.
Friends will also stream on AT&T’s WarnerMedia’s new site, prompting people to question if the company was originally taking back its show to stream it solely on its site.
The new streaming site will also feature Harry Potter, Lego movies and The Lord of the Rings.
Friends which aired for 10 seasons between 1994-2004, will also air on TBS.
