Piers Morgan hints he wants GMB return as Susanna Reid co-host rumours heat up

Piers Morgan has hinted he wants to go back to Good Morning Britain after it was reported that Susanna Reid could get a female co-host if he doesn't return.

The controversial star stormed off-set after a row with Alex Beresford over his comments about Meghan Markle, before he later quit GMB.

Since then, his vacant seat has been filled on a rotating basis by the likes of Adil Ray, Richard Madeley, Alastair Campbell and even Susanna's former BBC co-host Bill Turnbull.

Taking to Twitter to respond to reports that Susanna, 50, could get a female co-host, Piers, 56, made a questionable comment.

Hinting he wants to take back his seat, he wrote: "I could identify as a woman if that helps?"

The replies to Piers were, as expected, mixed, with many hoping he would return, while others slammed him for his flippant self-identification remarks.

One person commented: "2021 and you're still being a transphobic t*** I see."

Another wrote: "Please return to GMB. The show just isn't the same without you!"

A third told him: "Good one. This rhetoric that people just decide on a whim to change gender is really damaging for the trans community and snowflake conservatives who spent years crying at a bathroom crisis that doesn't exist eat it up every time. It doesn't work like that and you know that."

Someone else said: "Please do whatever you can. We now watch BBC and no offence intended to their presenters, but I feel more sleepy after watching them, it's starting to affect my mental health."

A fifth added: "Not that simple Piers. You're simplifying a massively complex issue. People are not coming out as trans or non-binary for attention. Why the heck would you when society gives mostly negative attention to such things? Courageous people are speaking their truth and you are mocking!"

And another stated: "Piers should return. He and Susanna are GMB."

Recently, Piers made a barbed dig at his former employer after it was revealed that viewing figures had severely dropped since his exit.

It was recorded that just 450,000 people tuned in for the episode on Tuesday, June 1 – a record low for Good Morning Britain.

Suggesting he thought he could save the show, he tweeted: "Jeez. Should I set my alarm for 4.45am again?"

Over the weekend, Piers spoke in a new interview for 60 Minutes Australia, in which he blamed Meghan Markle for his GMB exit.

He explained that she had personally complained to his ITV bosses, but he refused to apologise.
