Riverdale season five has been unlike any other as it featured a seven-year time jump, launching the Core Four into young adulthood. From a marriage and PTSD to financial woes and bereavement, series five has dealt with a lot of mature themes. So even more twists and turns are expected in the season finale of The CW and Netflix show.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Riverdale.

Jughead Jones (played by Cole Sprouse), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) returned to Riverdale to try and save the town from further dilapidation.

Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) had been destroying it as mayor so he could make way for his new town Sodale which was actually just a scam to line his pockets.

Nevertheless, he has been determined to bring Riverdale to the ground and it looks like even more is going to go wrong in the series finale.

The synopsis describes how “an incident” at Pop’s forces the gang to make a decision about their hometown’s future but has Hiram really won the battle?

When is the next season of Riverdale out?

Riverdale season five is almost over with Riverdale (RIP)? airing on The CW on Wednesday, October 6.

The same episode will then be released internationally on streaming service Netflix.

But there is no need to worry about not getting your weekly fix of melodrama as the series six premiere date has already been announced.

And thankfully, there isn’t too long to wait before it all begins again.

Riverdale season six will start on The CW on Tuesday, November 16, at 9pm ET (Eastern Time Zone) and 8pm CT (Central Time Zone) in the States.

So it is only a matter of weeks before Riverdale is back on our screens.

However, as long-term fans would have noticed, the schedule has changed.

Whereas up until now the drama has been on Wednesdays on The CW, it will now show on Tuesday, and one hour later than before, following the eighth series of The Flash.

The time difference may be because as the teens are now older, there are more serious themes in the series which means it would need to be shown after the watershed.

There has been no confirmation as to when series six will be out on Netflix.

But going by previous seasons, Riverdale is usually dropped on to the streaming service the day after it is shown in America.

If this remains the case, then Netflix will get Riverdale season six’s premiere episode on Wednesday, November 17.

The penultimate episode of season five was the series’ musical episode which fans had been waiting for since the beginning.

The episode featured songs from the noughties rock musical Next to Normal as Betty and Alice Smith (Mädchen Amick) were still coming to terms with Polly Cooper’s (Tiera Skovbye) death.

Archie and Veronica also broke up as she realised she didn’t want to be someone’s housewife, whereas Jughead and Tabitha Tate (Erinn Westbrook) finally got together.

Riverdale seasons 1-5 are available to watch on Netflix in the UK.
