Sam Mitchell causes chaos in EastEnders as she returns to Albert Square tonight

Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) is back in EastEnders tonight – and it’s fair to say that not everyone is pleased to see her. In fact, she manages to get on the wrong side of just about everybody within minutes of setting foot in Albert Square.

We last saw Sam in 2016 for Peggy Mitchell’s funeral, after which she left her son Ricky (Frankie Day) in the care of his dad, Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), and left Walford apparently for good.

Now she’s back, after being summoned by big brother Phil (Steve McFadden).

Everyone’s suspicious, not least Jack who’s worried about how long she might be staying and what effect it could have on Ricky. He and Denise (Diane Parish) agree between them that Ricky deserves to know who Sam is, but there’s no doubt it’s going to unsettle the boy.

Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Sharon (Letitia Dean) are equally upset by Sam being back on the Square and she thoroughly enjoys winding them up. Phil has asked her to take charge of the family business, and this leaves Sharon and Kat fuming as Sam flaunts her position as Phil’s chosen one. Ben (Max Bowden)’s also aggrieved that Phil apparently feels that he can’t cope without Sam’s help.

There are going to be some explosive scenes ahead as Kim Medcalf recently promised:

‘Being Sam Mitchell there’s obviously going to be a lot of trouble. She’s going to cause lots of drama in typical Sam Mitchell style and she’s also going to upset a few people. Let’s just say her return isn’t going to go down well with most people. I really can’t wait for the viewers to see it all.’

And there’s not long to wait…
