After airing four seasons on CBS and four episodes of the new season, the SEAL Team announced that the show was moving networks and relocating to Paramount +. With this unexpected change, fans are convinced that the show is making room for a potential spin-off series.
The SEAL Team is an action series that follows the lives of an elite unit of navy seals as they try to tackle dangerous and high stake missions across the world.
Much like soldiers in real life, their jobs can be life-threatening and when they’re not deployed these seals are trying to figure out their personal lives.
Their relationships at home are often strained due to the job and with this role, they are often called at a moment’s notice.
For the most part of the series, fans were on the edge of their seats watching it on CBS but now the remainder of season five will be aired on Paramount.
Despite no reasoning behind the move being released, some viewers are convinced that’s it because they want to create a spin-off show.
Taking to Reddit, the fan posted: “With Seal Team moving to paramount plus and having more freedom and budget, I think that it’s on Paramount plus would give more opportunity for them to do spin-offs.”
They explained: “It was a stretch on CBS given they had NCIS and FBI mini universes there was no more room.
“Now with Paramount plus they have all the room to do a delta force show in seal team style, along with other tier one units, I hope this is the case,“ they added.
Since the show’s premiere in 2017, it had been airing on a weekly schedule on CBS.
The television network announced the move back in May, after confirming that it would definitely return for a fifth season.
CBS also made fans aware that the move would happen after they had aired four episodes, meaning that the rest of the season would stream on Paramount+
With season five returning to screens on the 10th of October, the time schedule has yet to be released.
In the comments of the post, only one fan agreed with the possibility of the move happening for a spin-off.
They wrote: “The spin-off could be centred around someone’s life after the military.
“I think the most likely route (and again I repeat that I do think there will be a spin-off) could be related to the CIA, so it would be some sort of espionage/crime/thriller mashup, don’t forget, spin-offs don’t have to be anything like the original show.“
Whereas other fans completely disagreed with the theory: “They barely have enough ideas to keep SEAL Team interesting, I can’t imagine they have enough to make a second show out of.”
One other viewer agreed that the spin-off wasn’t going to happen at Paramount+ and stated: “They’re having a hard enough time doing this one show right. How about we just be happy with the one and be good?”
CBS has not released any official confirmation regarding a potential spin-off for SEAL Team and neither has Paramount +.
Fans will have to stay tuned to find out whether this theory does come true and if we will see any character spin-offs.
All episodes of SEAL Team are available to stream on CBS
