Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) is about to find himself in a serious situation where he fears he will die tonight as he comes up against an armed robber carrying a knife in Coronation Street. In order to make more money, Tracy (Kate Ford) has encouraged Steve to do illegal street pick ups and pocket the cash.
But this backfires spectacularly when a guy demands a lift and offers a pretty hefty fare for the favour. Alarm bells already ringing, Steve should be racing off leaving only a dust cloud behind but with the financial pressures and Tracy’s orders in his mind, he invites the customer into the car.
However, this is more than a customer – this is an armed robber who intends to hold up a garage at knifepoint and use Steve as the getaway driver. Well, that escalated quickly.
Intense scenes tonight will see the truth dawn on Steve as the robber bursts into the garage and then emerges. Faced with a blade, Steve begs for mercy and tells the man that he has a wife and kids – but the response is that Steve will have to comply with his orders if he wants to survive.
Is Steve about to become an accomplice in a crime he wants no part of in order to survive? Or will he stand up to his surprise new foe and end up paying a heavy price with his life?
While we can’t guarantee that Steve won’t feel the cold arm of the law in the future for this, we can confirm that he does survive but the incident leaves him so shaken that he arms himself with a baseball bat in his cab.
So when some teenagers dodge a fare and run away, seething Steve gives chase with his weapon – only for one of the lads to be run down by a car.
Any other messes you want to find youself in Steve? This taxi lark is a dangerous business.
Coronation Street continues on Friday 17th May at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
