A premiere screening of the upcoming Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly was forced to evacuate after a threat to the NeueHouse Madison Square was called in.
There were many guests at the screening including founder of the #MeToo movement Tarana Burke who tweeted about the incident.
She wrote: “So…Y’ALL ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS! Tonight was a private screening of the @lifetimetv documentary #survivingRkelly where his survivors, parents of survivors, and folks featured in the doc were gathered and a BOMB THREAT was called in and the event shut down. #muteRkelly”
It turns out the threat was a gun-related and not a bomb, but either way, it was a threat to the venue. She added: “The worst of it isn’t the threat though bc it didn’t appear to be credible but the survivors who had to endure his harassment. #muteRkelly
The docuseries, which premieres Jan. 3, is an investigation into the controversial R&B singer. Lifetime notes that his genre-defining career and playboy lifestyle have been riddled with rumors of abuse, predatory behavior and pedophilia. Despite damning evidence and multiple witnesses, to date, none of these accusations seems to have affected him. For the first time, survivors and people from Kelly’s inner circle are coming forward with new allegations about his sexual, mental and physical abuse. They finally are ready to share their full story and shed light on the secret life the public has never seen.
