As everyone prepares to settle into their sofas for a brand new series of Beat The Chasers, we chat to quick-witted quizer Jenny Ryan about her pre-show rituals.
The banter-loving brainbox, known as The Vixen on the hit game show (hosted by Bradley Walsh), has opened up about what she does to get herself ready for stressful nights in the hot seat.
“I have a lovely bath the night before the show and I get as much sleep as possible to wind down. I got into this routine within the first two years of starting work on The Chase [in 2015],” she revealed.
Jenny works alongside fellow quizzing experts – including Anne “The Governess” Hegerty, Mark “The Beast” Labbett, Shaun “The Dark Destroyer” Wallace and Darragh “The Menace” Ennis.

Despite her vivacious personality, the sharp-minded quizzing queen admits to being an introvert offscreen.
The 39-year-old explained: “When I’m off camera, I have to have time for myself, so I can re-energise myself and give my all to the show.
“I’m very comfortable in my own company. It allows me to find balance and get ready for two weeks of heavy filming.”
In spite of all that, Jenny revealed that she’s been getting a lot of attention when she’s out and about. “A few years ago I could go to the supermarket without being recognised, but the other day I got shouted at by a passer-by when I put my bins out!” she said.
“I mean, it’s all very nice, but it means life is very different now. I forget how famous the show is, so when people get starstruck around me, I’m thinking, ‘Have I got something on my face?’”
Jenny is hard to miss on the show where she sports her signature flame-red bouffant. She revealed during our chat that it involved quite a bit of maintenance.
“My natural hair colour is actually chestnut but I worked with the producers to enhance it to the right shade of red for the cameras,” Jenny reveals.
“And of course, I do like to glam up and get into my Vixen character – although it’s not without its drawbacks. There’s a lot of backcombing and a little pain associated with my hairstyles!”
When she’s not filming, Jenny enjoys being a bit more low-key and finds joy in small pleasures. However, that doesn’t mean she’s looking to coast in her quizzing career anytime soon.
“I’d love to be the next Jeremy Paxman. We’ve not got enough female quizmasters on TV. In fact, diversity is not well-represented at all,” she claimed
Jenny continued: “It does infuriate me when a new quiz show gets announced and it’s another middle-aged white man as the host. I’ve got the skills and I’ve got the authority. It could be me.”
