The Masked Singer fans predict Mushroom’s identity is Happy Monday’s Shaun Ryder

The Masked Singer viewers are convinced they've cracked Mushroom's identity as they believe that Shaun Ryder is underneath the costume after spotting clues.

Kicking off on New Year’s Day, judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan put their detective skills to the test in an all-new series of The Masked Singer.

The 2022 lineup includes the likes of Panda, Bagpipes, Traffic Cone and Firework.

Mushroom has caught the attention of fans with some fans after a handful of clues were released about each costume.

Happy Mondays star and former I’m A Celebrity…I’m Get Out of Here! campmate Shaun Ryder has emerged as a likely candidate for Mushroom.

Mushroom has already popped in the US version of the singing contest where he was unveiled as I Need A Dollar singer Aloe Blacc.

But the similar musical career path of the pair isn’t all that is similar with fans linking the fungi to Shaun’s time on I’m A Celeb.

The wild flora has also been linked to Shaun's successful stint on I'm A Celebrity.

Putting forward their predictions, one Masked Singer fan said on social media: "#MaskedSingerUK predictions based solely on costumes – because that's how it works right…Doughnuts – Ben Shepherd, Panda – Kaya Scodelario, Bagpipes – Susan Boyle, Poodle – George W Bush, Insect – Steve Backshall…

"Robot Rabbit – Liz Bonin, Chandelier – Sia, Pufferfish – Ellen, Traffic Cone – Ken Jeong, Snow, Leopard – Leona Lewis, Mushrooms – Shaun Ryder, Firework – Katy Perry.

"Some logic to all of them. Doubt I've got them all right!"

This comes after fans become certain that Alan Cumming, 56, is Bagpipes on the programme after he took to social media to shoot down rumours.

Series three kicked off on Saturday night introducing viewers to twelve fresh wacky characters – who are all celebrities operating in disguise.

As the stars were introduced to viewers, the guessing game began to heat up with many taking to Twitter to air their opinions.

Social media went wild at weekend, with answers landing thick and fast online – including one guess that seemed to cause an internet storm that Bagpipes was no other than actor Alan.

After the rumour mill had set Twitter alight, Alan decided to put to bed any speculation that he was on the show.

He tweeted: "Newsflash: I am not on @MaskedSingerUK nor will I ever be. Thank you."

The Masked Singer returns to ITV on January 1, 2022 at 7pm.
